Deckbuilding. limits
Why can my collection hold up to 4 (?) cards of the same type, but I can only build decks with 2 of them (just like creating cards from shards: only two allowed). Cards only above the limit of 4 seem to get grinded automatically... ?

I think you are saying,
I have 4 copies, anything over 4 gets milled.
Why not everything above 2

The rule is two bronze cards of the same kind and one gold per deck. Anything more gets automilled, i.e., turned into scraps for you to create another card from it.

But I have up to 4 copies of some cards in my collection. They don't get milled. That's why I ask. They say it's done automatically when you enter the deckbuilder. But even if I sometimes get a message that a card got milled I just get very few scraps (if any), and the collection still shows many cards with more than 2 copies.

It's to allow you to change a regular card to a premium (animated), I think. Frankly, I wish I could set the auto mill to 2, but I just go manually and mill them all - anything over 2x goes.

The magic number was 2 back in the days. Steam version of Gwent has some other rather silly problems with the UI too.
