I seriously hope this mechanic gets retroactively added to a bunch of other older weapons as well.
Basically any "melee" weapon given Ranged skills.
Rangers, Necros and Thieves Axe.
Necromancers Sword.
Mesmers Greatsword.
Revenants Hammer.
Would be nice to have all of their auto's to swap to a melee skill set once in range.
Likewise would be nice to see some melee weapons get ranged throwing chain attacks too once their target moves out of melee range.
Thief Dagger.
Guardian Sword.
Engineer Mace.
Technically it's not a melee weapon, It's a hybrid :P
It's been discussed a lot in the past though, Ranger as a profession doesn't have anything to do with range in the context of ranged weaponry.
It's based on woodsmen, bushmen and hermitary.
Typically a Ranger is someone who lives or spends a great deal of time out in the wilderness and protects it, a warden of nature.
It also has a connection to thievery, as to range for something can contextually mean both to protect something and to plunder it.
This is typically why Rangers in fantasy settings share a lot in common with Rogue classes.
Stealthy, Medium Armours (Leathers etc) can be evasive and quick and they tend to share a proficiency with similar weapons.
Most commonly Bows, one handed Swords and Daggers.
Gonna guess it's another "game is P2W" attitude because only those who buy the next expansion are going to have access to Spears.
We've heard the same stuff for years regarding elite specs and mounts etc.
All of it wrong ofc since it's based on the grounds that the core classes are completely outclassed by every new expansion locked weapon/spec/ability that's been added over the years.
Which simply isn't true at all.
There's some powercreep for sure but it doesn't invalidate what's already there.
Players are perfectly capable of playing and beating any content available to them with just the core classes and abilities.
Hell I got all the optional paid content, living world + expansions and I've been using a Core Ranger since Gw2 was in Beta XD
I don't care for the competitive modes at all but I have played a bit of WvW over the years, mainly for farming Dailies and Gifts of Battle.
I play a Core Ranger there too.
