you need to collect mastery points in different zones.

For example, you need mastery points for in Central Tyria to level up "pact commander, legendary crafting and fractal attunement".

Go to central tyria section in Masteries, then select pact commander and click it, that way you start training that mastery, once you get enough experience for that mastery you can now use the mastery points to train it.

how do you get the points? some come from achievements, for doing specific tasks, quests , some points are located in the maps and you just need to grab them, heres the complete list.

All mastery points come from achievements. And you can basicaly find guids for all archivements on youtube. just search on youtube :gw2 <achievement name>
Every single mastery point exists in the form of an achievement. And you can also filter your achievements so it only shows you those that give you specific mastery points. On egeneral rule is that the story missions give you a bunch of mastery points and there are also many scattered around the world similar to hero points that you get by simply interacting with them. and those are also visible by just looking at the maps.

Either way, the easiest way to figure out how to complete one specific achievement that rewards a mastery point is to simply look it up in the wiki as there are very deatiled descriptions including locations or events associated with them. Or you simply figure it out on your own by looking at the normal description of the achievement. Like for example by looking at the mastery insight achievements and then looking at the map that is mentioned in the achievement to see if you can see it on the map and then just go there.
Boosting was your first mistake as you moved your knowledge and character from 'newbie' to 'veteran' without learning anything.

My recommendation is to take that boosted character, or a new one, and play through your Personal Story all the way to the end. On the way, be sure to 100% the zones to get materials you can sell for gold on the market.

By the time you get to the end, you will know what to do next. And where to do it. :)

Good Luck
Yeah boosting your first character was definitely a mistake, you threw yourself in the deep end. Would have been better to save that for another character once you had a grasp of how to play the game and what class you'd want to spend more time on.

Now that you've done it though, Masteries require two things to be acquired. You first have to earn enough XP to fill the mastery's xp bar, then you have to spend a certain amount of Mastery Points to get that mastery.

On the xp side, nearly anything you do in the game gives XP, but it only applies to masteries in from the are you are in. Assuming you are still in the base game, your xp goes towards Central Tyria masteries. You cannot put that xp towards Heart of Thorns masteries, you have to earn xp in HoT maps for that.

Similarly, each mastery region has separate Mastery Points to earn for that region's masteries. Each one has a different colored symbol you should see next to various categories in your achievement window. You can use the filters in that window to only see achievements that give mastery points. Then you just decide on some achievements to go for and do them. For example, there are various mastery points that are earned for simply reaching certain places and channeling them like you do for a hero point. These should be labelled on the map if you have revealed their location too, so those are probably your best first set to go for.
It's frustrating how hard Anet works to ruin their new player experience. Doubling XP rate, giving a mount for 10 hours, making skyscale so easy, story only every 10 levels with no indicators, level 80 boost with no warning that you really shouldn't use it on your first character. (I have 4 of the damn things, never used them) Scam like starter pack to make sure your first paid experience leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

I think that nothing you list ruins the 'new player' experience in and of itself. It is the player themselves trying to short-cut the game in order to become 'elite'.

I'm inclined to agree to some level. Players can be their own worst enemies sometimes.

The new starter pack is absolutely a scam though.
I imagine most people who spend any amount of time helping out new players in this game let out a deep sigh whenever they read

I agree that for a knowledgeable player that knows what is going on, the Starter Pack is pretty much over-priced. Not a scam though; it does detail out what you get and the cost.

For a brand new player that is not buying expansions but wants a some nice convenience it is not a bad deal. Especially since if you don't buy expansions, you are not ever getting any mounts or the glider at all. And they are VERY nice for a new player to have.

So if a player intends to play the entire Core GW2 game without any expansions, but wants some nice convenience items, the Starter Pack is really not that bad a purchase. :)

Just my thinking on it.

Did you read the "For advanced players." on the Level-80 Boost?
just curious

Giving people shortcuts is the problem. Don't give shortcuts. At best, you ruin the experience, at worst, you make it pay to win.
Name any industry, people will always take shortcuts if they are available. This is basic human psychology.

Your thinking is flawed.
If you want to right now buy everything in the starter pack and just have 2 entire expansions thrown in for free, you can buy it for 12 USD.
Or for 20 USD, you can,.... well do nothing, because it doesn't even unlock masteries, it doesn't give you the raptor mount (it says it does but reports are it does not).

So not only are you paying MORE for a lot less, the starter pack is broken!

We're beyond boots theory here, if you buy the starter pack, you then have to buy the expansions anyways. So you pay nearly 3 times more to acquire what you would have gotten if you just bought the HoT and PoF bundle in the first place.

But hey, maybe you want a detailed non sale breakdown.

Bank Tab Expansion 600 Gems 7.50 USD
Bag Slot Expansion 400 Gems 5.00 USD
Total Makeover Kit 350 Gems 4.38 USD
SubTotal 1,350 Gems 16.88 USD
Guild Wars 2® Starter Pack 19.99 USD
Difference 3.11 USD

Raptor Mount Unlock Free with any expansion, once you reach level 10 (or the next multiple of 10) on a single character.
Basic Gliding Unlock Free with any expansion, barely need to do anything in an expansion to unlock it.
That extra 3.11 USD saves you a few minutes.

Can't blame Anet, when NCSoft owns them, and they have to follow what NC tells them to do. I remember when NC first formed as a company back in '97, i had already been gaming on PC for 8 years and they have been a crap company ever since.
