Guild Wars 2

First 2 EXPANSIONS: Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire should be permanently reduced in price by 50%.
I replied to someone on a thread the below and I want to add this as a separate thread as I believe it would be healthy for this game and for New Players to have easy access to the first 2 expansions that after playing this game, I find ESSENTIAL as a New Player experience.

Some could debate here and say why not just pay full price for the first 2 expansions but then there is the argument that people don't like to feel ripped off or screwed over as I hear that when the first 2 expansions usually do come on sale they can go as low as $5 to $10. Why should a New Player pay $30 when they can wait for a sale and pay such a lower price? I think ArenaNet should just permanently decrease the price of the first 2 expansions to say $15 and call it a day as it would INCENTIVISE new players and I think most would be willing to pay that price for what is an ESSENTIAL additive to the New Player experience giving MOUNTS and much needed INVENTORY/BANK space.

--------------

something to add. I would tell new people not to play UNTIL there is a sale on at least the Heart of Thorns/Path of Fire expansions as not having these will CRIPPLE your gameplay as you won't be able to get mounts at all, also, you will have SEVERLY limited inventory and bank space as a Free to Play player.

I am now max level and have some Ascended and all Exotic gear. I regret having played this early without knowing that I would be CRIPPLED in my gameplay without these expansions.

Right now I'm struggling with finding bank and inventory space for drops. I am waiting on a sale but not sure when that will happen. I kind of regret having played without knowing this.

Also, this game is nearly 10 years old. The first 2 expansions is ESSENTIAL for new players and should be at least permanently marked down by 50%. I can understand charging full price for new expansions or even expansions that have come out recently but essential expansions that give inventory/bank space and mounts that came out some time ago should be reduced permanently in price by 50%. I can see why new players are DISCOURAGED to start this game and continue.

while i get it, the base game does not require mounts in the slightest. If you require mounts to play the base GW2 then there is an issue with the playstyle you have picked. Even WoW does not give you a mount till 20 and its SLOW AS HELL. heck FFXIV is 1/2 through the main story of the realm reborn. Mounts make things easier but it also causes people to blast through the game and not catch the events or POIs, vistas ect. then those same people will come here and complain that the game is boring and has nothing to do.

It's already half-price. You're getting two whole expansions for the price of ONE.

You just proved that you weren't crippled at all.

It only became a "problem" when you found out you got more when you paid for more.

Well no, I always planned to BUY the expansions but since I know it regularly goes on SALE at like $5 to $10, WHY THE HELL would I want to buy it at $30? You see that logic? This is what is stunting this game for NEW PLAYERS. They need to just make it at $15 normal so people don't have a "pause" and think I'm getting screwed over if I buy it now kind of thought. This is the complaint.

Welp yes, I don't need mounts at all but it sure SUCKS when you are doing WvW and you are not using mounts yes? You always get left behind and you almost always are late to a skirmish.

But my main complaint with this is not the mounts but the INVENTORY/BANK space. How the hell do you fit all the stuff you get with the limited space that the game gives you as a free to play player? It takes a lot of time to get 150 gold as a new player to buy extra bag slots.

I'm not saying I'm not going to eventually BUY the expansions. I'm saying since it already almost regularly goes on sale between $5 and $10, why the hell don't they just reduce it to $15 instead of $30? As a new player I'd be more PISSED OFF if I paid $30 today and then couple weeks down the line, a sale happens and its at $5 ~ $10. That would make me rage more to quit the game.

Dude even now, no one pays that price to buy the expansions. It almost always gets bought when a sale happens and almost alwasy ONLY when a sale happens.

While i can see the reason a company would like to keep this the way it is.

As a player who just bought the latest expansion, because i assumed it won't have a huge discount , and now i am faced with a lot of roadblocks, and gameplay mechanic locks because i lack the OTHER expansions i find it very frustrating, and the game keeps reminding me i lack them.

So, yeah i am just waiting for a sale, feeling stupid and at a disadvantage.
most people will wait for a sale , and that's what i am doing now.

But this just feels like having a cut down experience and i am waiting for some time of the year to actually be able to play? i dunno it just feels slightly wrong.

Sooo yeah, i agree, either a constant discount or a price decrease would be a good solution,

Also people here talking about not needing mounts CMON!!, they give you that raptor for 10 hours and then leave you without it, it makes navigating a TERRIBLE TERRIBLE experience, and again the only thing on your mind is like Hmmmm, well guess i'll just wait for X months (depending on your luck and time of the year!) till i can get this expansion hohohohoh!

My bad, you can just wait until the Steam Summer Sale around July, since the game "Regularly goes on sale" only during the Autumn, Winter, and Summer steam sales.

Or you can just wait until next Christmas, since that's the next time it will be under $10. You wouldn't want to be "screwed over" by only getting a 50% discount in the summer, would you?

I can assure you, it's not "stunting the game for new players" just because the first two expansions are only 50% of their original price instead of 25%.

or I can just quit like most people do eh and that is why this game doesn't grow. Yup.

In fact, I think Last Epoch is coming out soon. I'll play that then in the meanwhile. Cheers!

Hello, in 2019 I bought the 2 expansions for €30 and it offered me more than 400 hours of content. I have done the core without raptor, unlocking 100% of all maps. This game is not like WoW, you don't need to run and play 24 hours to get there fast. The only FOMO there is in GW2 is the gem shops.

I have been able to complete 90% of HoT + PoF achievements

I played on release without the Raptor, but still the difference between having a Raptor and not having it is HUGE, and especially after you get to ride it for 10 hours you feel so slow afterwards, and it's much harder getting to some vista points without it, to the point where i just skipped them until i bought the DLC lol.

also you see everyone running around 10x faster than you, and the raptor ain't even the fastest one, but these are locked behind more DLCs ...

no fomo, just the fact that i have a -75% movespeed debuff sucks. i like movespeed in my games.

Maybe he's not lazy and gormless and cooks for 1/10th the cost?

They already are. Each, when purchased at time of release were $30.00 USD. As a package deal, they are $30.00 combined.
SinisterSlay Feb 20, 2024 @ 5:53am
I bought every expansion full price, twice for 2 accounts.
And it was worth it.

For comparison, groceries for a month was $700, a quick eat out is $100. Paying $80 for each expansion was truly no big deal for how much fun we got out of them. And being an MMO, there is huge benefits to being early into content. Values are higher, pops are higher, camaraderie is better.

I get waiting for a sale, I do it all the time, but not when waiting makes you late. My time is worth way way more than that small amount saved in money.
