Guild Wars 2

Guild Wars 2

Is there any actually helpful in-game tutorial for a newbie?
My only experience with mmorpg was Lineage 2 years ago. I'm not too familiar with mmorpg system nowadays, so I guess I'll need some proper tutorial in-game. Is such thing in this game?
Or do I have to open wikia in background and do like 3 hours read / 1 hour gameplay.

Note: If you have any tips, valuable sources for builds, basic help, yt channels etc feel free to add it for me. I appreciate it.

There is a pretty basic tutorial in the game (tells you how to move and attack but not much else)

and since you asked here's a great one-stop shop for builds:
https://metabattle.com/wiki/MetaBattle_Wiki

I added you, so you can ask question when you have something in mind

Depends on how much help you are looking for. The game slowly introduces new systems to you, every level up you will get a popup you can click explaining a system or mechanic. There is also a set of achievements called the "character adventure guide" that direct you to a number of basic activities and services, and gives you xp for doing them. Between them, the basics should be fine to grasp. Once you get higher level and want to get a build together or decide what activities to do though, that kind of stuff you may want some guidance on.

Wiki not needed just for getting the basics and playing up to level 80.
But I'm just going to be honest.
Wiki and guides will most likely become a big part of the game for you
A lot of info can be hard to come by in game

But this is usually the case for MMORPG's though
At least I can say that the guild wars 2 wiki is good and can be accesed from the chat in-game.

Lineage 2 is hardcore korean style mmo and p2w.

Gw2 is easier in many aspects, eg: you won't have to kill 10000 billion mobs for 6 months to get 1% experience at high levels. (and if you die you get xp penalty lol) You won't have to farm 10 different materials in huge amounts, in 10 different places and then look for a dwarf and cross fingers cuz the crafting can fail and takes like half of all your materials and the recipe is only dropped by two specific mobs deep inside a dungeon with a 0.02% chance ohh and if you want to craft it again you'll have to find the recipe again! cuz everything is consumed in the crafting even the recipe etc i think the rest get the idea of how lineage is.

Watch AyinMaidin and Mukluk on youtube if you have issues with jumping puzzles or achievements, special collections etc.
VIsit discretize, hardstuck, snowcrows and metabattle for builds, you are new in the game it will take time to get used to it but if you already played linaege 2 then gw2 shouldn't be a problem.

This is a game that very much expects you to use the official wiki whenever you have questions about how things work or what you need to do that you can't figure out the answer to on your own. So much so, in fact, that the wiki is integrated directly into the game's built-in chat commands - you can type "/wiki" into the in-game chat box followed by the name of any item, location, or character in the game, and once you hit Enter it will automatically pull up your default web browser and take you straight to the wiki page for that item, location, or character. The wiki is officially maintained as part of the Guild Wars 2 website, and apart from the occasional technical issue it is quite well-built and generally up-to-date for any content that didn't JUST release within the last couple weeks or so.

The game also has a pretty friendly and helpful community overall, so whenever you have questions that can't be adequately answered by "RTFW", you can usually ask in map chat in a densely populated area such as Lion's Arch or one of the racial home cities and get an answer or three.

There is also an official guide on the games website:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/new-player-guide
(Including localized versions for a few languages).

A pretty up-to-date beginners guide video can be found here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcX0IdMWhOQ

In addition to that: Use the ingame chat if you have any questions! There will most likely be people around to help you out.

All you really have to do is go to youtube and type in
GW2 beginners tips
GW2 secret tips
GW2 things I wished I knew
etc

The game really isn't rocket science, yet.
Who knows how it will look after the next expansion.

i have been playing mmos for 2 decades, and it is NOT normal to rely on outside
souces to play. 1000s of hours in wow, swtor, tera, aion, FF etc. stop spreading misinformation like that.

I see... So anything you personally don't do is considered "not normal", and anything you don't agree with is "misinformation"...

People should be allowed to play in any way they feel comfortable. Plus, information doesn't necessarily make things easier - it just hints at the correct direction to apply your efforts in.

"/wiki" chat command is my best friend in-game, and I can recommend it to anyone!

Sorry, but that's not true, i have been playing mmos since 2004; everquest 2, guild wars 2, lord of the rings online, Lineage 2, Tera online etc and always, everytime, sooner or later not only me but the vast majority had to google and rely on guides, wiki, fansites, youtube videos etc to complete a quest, look for builds, collections, achievements, rare items, raid respawn time, boss locations, items/resource drop tables, crafting, festivals and much more.

Players have had always done such thing and before the internet it was done with magazines like Nintendo Power, PC Gamer, GamePro or tv shows dedicated to gaming, sure, it's up to you to ignore all of that and play the game with no help whatsoever, that doesn't mean "it is not normal" to look for extra info and help which is perfectly fine.

.....

A weird hill to die on...

Smol Hobbit already perfectly explained the major flaw of your argument, but I just question your leap of logic to that conclusion. As explained, guides have always existed even in print form back then. There were literal guide books of games like Metroid that were printed and sold for people to use.

In addition to what other posters already responded: OP is pretty new to the genre. When we veterans with 2 decades of knowledge in the genre hop into another MMORPG we pretty much know how it works from the get go. So contrary to what you might think: Us being veterans pretty much disqualifies us from judging how difficult a certain MMO is to pick up for completely new players within this genre.
