I very much doubt it's "majority" of players (a lot of people like to call themselves "majority" on forums, so I take it with a grain of salt), but anyway those people don't play games. Here is a quick test: is cleaning your toilet a game? How about vacuuming your carpet, is it a game for you? But you definietely participate in some activities when doing both, so what's the difference?

Games are intrinsically tied to challenges, there is no game without those. You have to solve a puzzle, or best somebody (or something) while following certain rules, otherwise you're not playing a game, you're doing a chore. That's why I said I consider mmorpgs a few steps back on the game's evolution tree: simply because nobody figured out how to adapt a regular single-player experience to environment of mass online, they didn't come with anything better than those hideous "game mechanics" of doing brainless little digital chores to control everybody's progress - which later became a staple because no commercial company would want to risk their investments into a "brand new" mmorpg they are about to add to market by trying something radically new and more resembling a game. While many people whose RL sucks big deal readily jumped on this bandwagon for a false sense of achivement by doing those brainless little chores, to feel themselves significant.

There is no nicer way to put it, unfortunately. MMORPGs are crappy games, in general. GW differs from the majority by actually offering a somewhat challenging combat system which you need to master and which allows you to show way better results when mastered. Like, something that is a mundane thing in single player games, but is a rare beast in mmorpg genre, right.

Some players just don't want to play a game, right, we already established it.

3. Combat in GW2 is simply too stressful. A lot of incoming damage compared to health pool, especially without endgame gear or specific builds. A lot of conditions. Effects like projectile reflection that punish players for playing the way they like (devs, give enemies melee damage reflect please to punish melee builds equally). Of course people would try to avoid all that stress.

I'm puzzled what are you even talking about. Raids? Fractals CM? Strike missions may be? Majority of the game is kindergarden where an old dude like me, who has a reaction time and perception of a potato and wasn't able to handle playing Overwatch in unranked due to this, can run solo, even the hardest OW content like HoT offers, most of it. With a build chosen for fun and looks primarily, playing from a gamepad. Assuming ofc you're really into the game and learn how to play it, learn how to use your build's combos and strong sides. Yea, it's not a kind of game which you can play with one hand, while holding a beer in the other.

Eh? It's called "getting hit back" in their case, like, you know, when those meele fighters hit somebody, they're hit back. Or does annihilating mobs from a safe distance without repercussions sound like a good game design to you? You won't put that beer in your other hand down no matter what, aint' you? :)

I'm playing this game because my friend plays it. That doesn't mean i like it a lot.

Oh, that actually explains a lot. I'm just not sure why Anet should listen to those who are not really interested in playing their game though. At least until it's dumbed down to a state when you don't need to learn anything and just can press a couple buttons, killing everything that moves ofc. Crossing my fingers they will never listen then.

necro is a good choice
Ofc it's Elem :D
I highly suggest ranger as a starter class, too.
Best class is the one that most makes you go "that sounds really cool".
It really is as simple as that.

Yup necromancer it is!
Also when you get HoT + PoF expansions and reach lvl 80 you can play new elite spezialisations Reaper & Scourge. And Reaper is superstrong and awesome elite spec you can play!
Basic core Tyria beginning professions all lacking abit though, but necro still strong.

Here is 1 example of super-survivability Reaper build (tested myself many other versions also + spear builds, but this one is best in terms of surviving anything):

My approach, basically. And I also dislike OP stuff in generally, so always play for something that is both cool AND challenging.

Same, might be why I started with the one profession that most people would caution against and had a blast with it. Still my main, still nearly half of my playtime on it, when I have one of each profession and they're all fully trained.

In fact, while I do quote the easier starting professions (necro, ranger, guardian, warrior), I think I would have been bored had I started with with ranger.
But then the game was not as complex at launch, so maybe that helped some.

I started Warior then changed to Ranger and I love it I made my self a decent guy to do stuff Im not good nor perfect but I can dish out a lot off dmg now althou HP/and aromour are missleading as in most cases the thing that kills u is negatives that u cant defend against unless u have a spell for it. That is what I found out

Welcome to GW2! Necro indeed is a very rewarding class to play for new players. Try getting into low tier "Fractals" as early as possible when you reach 80 and have exotic gear, that will probably be your main means of income. :)
I waited way to long doing this and missed out on some sweet cash.
