How's the game for a FTP player?

I don't exactly have a lot of money to spend but I still wanna give this game a shot so I'm wondering how much fun could I draw from the game as a FTP player? And if I decided to buy one of the DLC's, which one would you say is the most worth it? (Just in case this is relevant I plan on playing as a summoner necro)

yes but isn't it nice that we have nice people that will use portals to get you to the end of the puzzle if its a daily and mist of the time if people see you just having problems.
