Guild Wars 2
How's the game for a FTP player?
I don't exactly have a lot of money to spend but I still wanna give this game a shot so I'm wondering how much fun could I draw from the game as a FTP player? And if I decided to buy one of the DLC's, which one would you say is the most worth it? (Just in case this is relevant I plan on playing as a summoner necro)

A little more than the base game when it launched. Max level and the ability to use the maximum gear level. It's a big game and the F2P content is still done by players who have everything.

DLC would be the Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire bundle. I think most people would agree that it's worth more than the other 3 expansions combined.
The F2P version is basically the full base game but with a few QoL restrictions, like less bag slots, so definitively worth playing. It does have more content then back when it was initially released and everyone had to buy it. And except for the 3 instead of 5 bag slots those F2P restrictions aren't that bad.

As for a small purchase the HoT+PoF is certainly the best value, especially during a sale. Though there sadly is a small problem as the Elder Dragon Saga Complete Edition also contains the Living World DLC, with th eLiving World being basically mini expansions that are inbetween the expansions and if you ever buy ay of the first 3 DLC's on Steam you can no longer buy the bundle and are forced to instead buy the Living World in the ingame gem store for 4160 gems (52€) Though 100€, or 50€ when discounted, is a pretty steep price for a new player, even though the amount of content is still worth that price.

So in short: Best is Elder Dragon Saga Complete Edition, best cheap is HoT+PoF but it makes buying the bundle impossible.
It's decent. Has a few annoying restrictions, but its more than enough to try before making a decision on buying, and if you enjoy but don't want to commit too much, you can upgrade to paid with the Heart of Thorns / Path of Fire bundle for a low price for good / a good amount of content.
Thanks all for the amazing advice and encouraging words! Thanks again for easing my worry!
Its barebones for those who own all expansions. Can only imagine how it is for a F2P player.
The inventory space is tight and your ability to make money is pretty much impossible without the trade post. I guess you can farm fractals.
But there is a lot of content for free players. Your first 60 hours at least.

if you don't have much money, wait for the next steam spring sale march 13th, you can get the cheapest bundle the heart of thorns + path of fire expansions bundle for $7 i think and its totally worth it, in the meantime playing as f2p should be fine the worst thing is the dumb ads telling ya to upgrade to full version (which btw happens in most f2p mmos) and the chat adn market restrictions, once you upgrade and get your expansions all the restrictions are removed.

The game is 13 years old, and you suggest to wait some more? Yea, lets wait until GW3 comes out in 2032 since we're at it, at least gw2 expansions will be cheaper by then.
he says he doesn't have much money, i told him in that case to wait for the next big steam sale in 15 days, (march 13th). The game being 13 years old or unconfirmed gw3 project release is irrelevant, non sequitur argument.

If he doesn't have much money, the convo is over. He obviously can't buy the game, and waiting for sale could take a year of waiting, which makes no sense. Play a f2p game instead, and that's that.
you mean like the original game of this. which is F2p with very few restrictions compared to most of the others.

No. GW2 F2P is as bad as they come. When i talk f2p, i am referring to proper titles such as PoE, Marvel Rivals, etc.
Gonna throw my 10c in here...

Ignore or block the haters. Since it's F2P you can easily make up your own mind as to whether it's something you like (like most players) or hate (like over half the posts here).

I've played original, and now playing on steam because they support gaming on Linux. I don't get the hate. I don't like jumping puzzles, but that one minor thing doesn't make me hate the game!

One thing to keep in mind is that if you go on and buy expansions, they do require some effort, and developing some skill as a player. If you want a game where you just keep hitting the same key all day this might not be what you want.

I really appreciate your take on the matter! I decided to do what most suggested and play the game and wait for a sale to buy the heart of thorns + path of fire expansions when their cheaper. I read that a lot of the haters are just to be ignored as their points are fairly mute and I think I'm gonna do exactly that.
