Guild Wars 2

Guild Wars 2

Frame Rate Drops, Just Checking
The only issue that I have ever had with GW2 is frame rate drops on some world bosses and populated WvW content.

I just got a new PC, which has great fps most of the time (well over 100), but I can drop to 24-40 during busy populated content. I run everything on high, and the fps drops don't bother me.

Is this the experience with others using high end systems?

Set character model limit to medium.

This, exactly this!
Once I've lowered the character model limit, never had any issues with frame drops after that

Correct, character model limit has a huge impact on performance, with a modern machine you can have everything maxed out but still get massive fps drops if character model limit is set above medium during big events because the game is going to render more players which brings more particles, effects etc

Try doing one of those events where you get fps drops but now with character model limit at medium or low you'll see the difference immediatly.
Operating system and other variables make this thread a question of more information needed.

this is my pc specs and I would call it medium level gaming

CPU AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
CPU cooling ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 280
MB MSI MAG X670E TOMAHAWK

Memory CORSAIR VENGEANCE DDR5 RAM 64GB (2x32GB) 6600
SSD's 1x Crucial P5 Plus 1TB M.2 PCIe Gen4 NVMe Internal Gaming SSD
2x Crucial P5 Plus 2TB M.2 PCIe Gen4 NVMe Internal Gaming SSD
1x Crucial P5 Plus 4TB M.2 PCIe Gen4 NVMe Internal Gaming SSD

Case CoolerMaster MasterCase Pro 5
PSU coolermaster MWE 850 Gold V2 Fully Modular PSU
Graphics Card AORUS GTX 1080 Ti Waterforce Xtreme Edition 11G O/C GPU 2060mhz mem at 5960mhz
O/S Linux
I run the game via Proton GE.

I hard limit to 60fps its all my monitor can show so I see no point creating frames that wont matter but even in crowds it maintains the framerete

np btw that setting does two things well.. not entirely sure but 1- lowers the amount of character players in the screen and if the setting is even lower 2- makes some of those players look like some basic default model.

Aren't you glad to have paid out for a top end pc only to have to use medium to low end game settings. The game is bloated and not optimized after all these years on top of the poor quality coding these devs do. The only thing that happened between Friday and Saturday was wvw reset which has cause a cascade of things to screw up. Yes, Anet's incompetence is light years ahead of others. Glad to see that y'all are happy to settle for second, even third best.

But you never played the game...

And your coding skill is like your steam level : 0

thats why some of us suspect they are the same 2-3 guys with alt accounts, checkin user post history reveals nothing but "gw2 is bad" like, literally, they don't post anywhere else just here, maybe they visit another forum every now and then but 90% of the time is just gw2 forum, like hardwaenze whatever, dude hasn't posted anything in a different forums he just waiting to be allowed to post here again, imagine that being your only hobby on steam community, absolutely mindblowing.

I don't really mind, I just know that it's an older game with an older Engine (a heavily modified version of the 2005 Guild Wars 1 Engine) that is incapable of being optimized more at this point in it's life cycle.

I play Throne and Liberty also, NCSoft stopped using their proprietary Guild Wars Engine and used Unreal 4 instead.

It has amazing graphics and great performance. My FPS is great with large scale PvP, but it's not as fun as Guild Wars 2 and the combat is a more traditional Tab Targeting.

What is more surprising, is that armyguy started to trash Gw2 steam forum on his very release date :

Despite having his profile set to private, posts history aren't and are freely available to everyone :

https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198115817393/posthistory/?p=1

He started in August 17 2023, forum being created a little bit before the official steam release (August 23, 2022)

He exclusively made an account on steam (0 steam level, 0 games on his list) with the only goal to spread lie / misinformation / trashing / trolling the game.

He isn't expressing his opinion at this point, but using the "freedom of expression" that steam offer to manipulate and lie.

Steam can safely ban this guy.

GW2 is very CPU bound. If your CPU sucks, you're gonna get terrible performance.
