updates are coming steadily, most of the player base doesn't use the Steam launcher. Game is nowhere near dead, they are actually working on GW3 but we likely won't see that for a few years.

Game costs $0 to try and its a ton of fun, IMO best combat for an MMO by far.

Steam forum has a bunch of trolls. And they are just trolls in every sense of the word.

1. The game launched in 2012, but came to steam 10 years later. Players cannot link their original account with Steam. They have no reason to play on steam. There is no reason to think 4k Steam players shows anything about the actual player numbers.

2. Most recent update was 13 days ago. It was a content update with a new Zone, more story quests, some skill balance, etc:

3. Roadmap: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Upcoming_changes_and_features

4. The next paid expansion was recently pushed back from August to October: https://en-forum.guildwars2.com/topic/156603-update-on-our-next-expansions-release-date-expansion-6%C2%A0/

The game IS past it's prime. It's nearly 15 years old. However, it's still got plenty of players. It's still getting content updates and paid expansions.

the vast majority of players use the standalone launcher, people using steam version are playing exact same game in the exact same servers but there are restrictions like not being able to use "gem cards" (gift cards available on amazon and other stores) and you have to purchase stuff with your steam wallet like the dlc, expansions, premium currency etc, steam wallet, nothing else will work. and no, game isn't dying, is well populated and very active.

Right now im preparing to do an event called "piñata" it's an even from an expansion released 7 years ago and my friends can't get inside my instance because it's already full, that's just one event from an old map, there is so much more people doing something else in different maps, locations etc

Hey WRUDSB! Hunting for a new MMO, huh? Been there, done that, got the epic loot (and the occasional frustrating bug). 😂 To help you decide if this one's worth your time, tell me: what are your must-haves? Epic battles that make you yell? A story so good you forget to eat? Crafting so deep it's practically a second job?

You probably won't find many other MMO's where even the realy old maps are still full with many players. Since old maps never get irrelevant and there also is the playerbase to populate most of the maps properly. Though there always will be some maps that have more and some that have less players (especially during the night), also since there are daily achievements that shift between some of those maps.

And we currently get one expansion roughly every year, so the devs did also not yet abandon the game. They also made it so that we get one bigger update every 3 months.

It's the best free game, ever. Give it a try, there are hundreds of hours of gaming before you decide to invest a penny.

I've played a lot of MMOs before this one, but this one is the best! A huge amount of players, the world is big and beautiful, a huge amount of side things to do. It's different from other MMOs, it's not just about clicking "AWSD". I recommend it

The is def worth playing to open world. However, as a long term investment where you might want to show off your achievements, I'd play a game people actually care about.

I am start playing this game 2 days ago. And would like to play with somebody in a party. Would you like to join?

The game is full of players at anytime of the day...

i wouldn't use steam for this game, my two cents
Its not worth starting. GW2, in 2025, is a waste of life simulator. Just check a few streams on twich, literally all of them are as miserable as you will see on the platform.

Most of them are streaming WvW and PvP: the two most dead and underdeveloped gamemodes.

Say the troll that never played the game.

It's definitively worth starting in 2025

Which is another massive L from anet. Ignoring WvW is literally braindead, and shows how they don't understand game development.
