Guild Wars 2

Guild Wars 2

Story immersion. Love for the character
I have played ff14 for just an hour and I already cared for the main character and the city where I started.

Because I thought Guild Wars 2 was a better option coop-wise I have decided to let go of FF and started a fresh campaign on GW2.

I have played Guild Wars 2 for just an hour or 2 but I don't care that much for the character ''yet''. And the place where I started doesnt give me the feeling to care for the people who live there the way FF has.

Also I go from town to town doing the quests but it all seems so rushed and over the place.

I know that it may sound absurd because I have only played for 2 hours or so , but my question is: Does it get any better ?

Once you reach level 10 the actual story opens up. Personally, I think it gets much better from there.

What race did you choose?

The personal story is different for each race and can differ depending on what path you choose in the story. Every 10 levels will open up a new continuation. Now, if you are looking for characters that a lot of people come to love and be familiar with, those will won't really take part in the full storyline until season 1 of the Living World at lv80 after your personal story. Right now you're more or less just being introduced to the systems and the GW2 world. Everything big, even storywise, is basically at lv80 in the game.

Edit: I can get what you're saying with liking your main character a lot, but we also can't change classes on a fly here like in FF14 on one character, fair warning.

In central tyria the world iis more or less independent from yoour own character story, there simply are things happening in the areas and you can help them to get to know about some of the more local stories. Once you reach the expansions all the areas are deeply connected with your personal story and basically give you some information about what other inhabitants and your comrades are doing while you are more responsible for the more important parts that you can experience in nyour story missions. Though I guess it does already kind of happenn earlier, in the Orr areas and the silverwastes.

Also, the character story up to lvl 80 is quite mediocre gameplay wise, once you reach the living story and expansions the gameplay part of them gets way better. For story telling ... I must admit that I seem to have a quite uncommon way of seeing things, so all I can say is that I like the story missions story wise, but that might be subjective.

Also, since you just speak about your character, did you even already reach lvl 10 and did the lvl 10 story quest within these 1-2h? Since those story missions are the main place for your character to have a character.

I am still lvl 7. I'm not trying to start a discussion between ff14 and GW. It's just my first impression between those 2 games in my first 2 hours!

Well, I'd say that the story starts at lvl 10. the stuff you do in the introduction sequenz at lvl 1 isn't really that much story, simply an enemy you have to defeat. Also, the lvl 10-80 story is diferent depending on which race you chose and many other decisions you had to make when creating your character, and you can also make further choices in the future that again lead to different missions you have to do. Though past the lvl 80 story, aka living story and expansions, every story mission is fixed.

Still lvl 7! When I read all the comments I believe that the story will get better and not all over the place I guess!

Having played both games, I agree that the story in FF14 is better. I didn't care for the story in GW2's main campaign. The Living World and DLC stories have garnered my interest a lot more than the main campaign (which only pops up every ten levels starting at level 10).

nope it doesn't get better, I like this game more overall than ff14 tho

Sorry but the story in FF!4 is absolute garbage.

I love Gw2 but the story of the core game is not very good. However, in LW1 he starts to improve with Scarlet. And of course PoF + LW4 is a masterpiece. Blood and Ice is good until Covid arrived

I believe you mean no voice acting due to covid?

Which was patched in later.

That did happen ya, but I can only imagine all the other decision making that might have been done better due to that. As my small, 6 year old relative once put it, "Covid wreaks everything."

I personally love the GW2 story and especially the way the story is told from Season 1 onwards. I especially love the typical humor in this game and the fact that you can play all the story with one or more friends instead of being forced into solo instances. I have always seen the story instances as "personal dungeons", that I can tackle in my very own pace, including some boss fights designed to be beatable alone.
The core game story has the benefit of branching stories going for it and there are some very iconic parts, like the level 60 storyline which will. But with the living world seasons and the new group that will form around you all the characters become more interesting and you get to bond with them a lot better than with the characters in the core game. In my opinion season 4 is the strongest part of the story. The end of season 5 (ice brood saga) is probably the weakest part and you can feel they rushed it as they were already working on the end of dragons expansion.

But I also know that some people don't like the story. Often for one or both of the following reasons:
1) While Guild Wars 2 often picks up references and unresolved threads of Guild Wars 1, fans of the predecessor often feel like a lot of potential is wasted, as the solution to these "big topics" in GW1 isn't quite as grandiose as they hoped. I can see and understand this take, but I also think that you only notice it if you have played Guild Wars 1 to a certain extend back then.
2) There are elements that certain people would describe as "woke". And as usual these people easily get triggered to go on a rant about it. I don't bother much about the inclusivity and diversity, as - unlike in other media - it feels natural here.

Also, having played FF14 up until the start of Shadowbringers now, I have to say that FF14 has a better story, enriched by the traditional sidequests. But this is also because FF14 is really more focused on you playing through the story rather than exploring the world and playing together. FF14 is has a bigger focus on the RPG part in MMORPG, while Guild Wars 2 more on the MMO part of the MMORPG.
