Guild Wars 2

Guild Wars 2 is actually Free to Play
I'm concerned for how a similarly named delusional post may end up or already have damaged first impressions on this game for curious would-be players. So I'll clarify here.

Guild Wars 2 is Free to Play. You can play the entire game of Guild Wars 2 as it was originally released for absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ free.

Guild Wars 2 Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire are not free. These post release expansions; which add eight maps, mounts, gliders, a new class, two new storylines and two transformative specializations for each class in the game, are sold together for the price of 30$ USD. OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Guild Wars 2 The Living Story is partially free. Periodically the game has been updated with new story chapters and new maps, which are unlocked for free if you were playing the game when they were added. Otherwise, you have to buy them afterwards; I think each season of like six story chapters and six maps costs like 20$ or so.

Yes this game has a cash shop. It's mostly filled with overpriced cosmetics, which you can buy with ingame gold by converting it into the cash shop currency. There are experience and level boosting whatever things but I've gotten at least ten characters to max level without needing them, especially since the game gives you stuff like that for free. You can even buy the expansions and living story episodes with ingame gold, via converting it.

So many ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ problems in the world and some humans are more obsessed with irrationally ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on a random MMOs Steam release. Which dragged me into typing a similarly sized counter post because this is the only MMO that ever kept me interested, i respect it, and while it has issues; "not being free to play" isn't one of them.

Just go download the game from its website and play it now, it's still very active and the developers are working on a new expansion. I wouldn't be surprised if they're holding off to release it on Steam with the expansion.

Thats a good point

What's the point of this thread? It's either gonna be a circle jerk or a mini version of the other one. If it doesn't outright "die" before it sees any action that is.

The point can be argued back and forth and nobody's gonna be changing their minds because it can be either. Similar to the game being P2W or not... depending on how one defines it, GW2 can be P2W. If this game loses players it's gonna be from the awful performance and the lackluster content releases outside of expansions, not from a Steam thread.

When I experience a game that is P2W, it feels cheap or turned cheap and constantly marketing to you for a money drip while excessively grindy, This game is the exact opposite of that.

As I said, very much depends on one's definition. If by P2W one defines strictly advantages that aren't available without paying then yeah, GW2 isn't P2W (gray area again due to the "F2P but expansions give you big bonuses" thing though). If one defines P2W as exchanging money for any kind of advantage, even if that comes in the form of skipping the grind then GW2 is very much so. One can start the game today and in 4-5 hours they can be level 80 in ascended gear with legendary weapons. The chances of someone doing it are slim but the ability is there. You can trade your money for in-game gold and that allows you to buy everything with 0 effort, regardless if it's a cash shop item or not.

Personally I don't consider GW2 to be P2W, although many would. Definitions when not concrete are up to everyone's interpretation and there are a lot of those in gaming.

Free to Play does not mean Free.
Unfortunately people don't do their own research and assume F2P means Free and they get confused (kinda like gender swapping confused). People like that and games like Warframe will never change the model. Warframe is not a good example of F2P, because Warframe is actually Free. They use the F2P tag for legal reasons (game as service).

Guild Wars 2 is not Free.
Guild Wars 2 is Free to Play.

P2W does not exist in this game, because paying you will not guarantee victory, it will only leave your account with some utilities and your most beautiful character.

GW2 is not Free to Play, GW2 Standart edition - freemium

The confusion stems from the lack of effort put into the store page, almost 1 year now without a single update.
But to clarify :
GW2 Base Game is free (has a lot of restrictions, level 80 is the cap and game basically treats you like a bot, for anti-botting reasons)
The current full experience is buying Path of Fire (which also nets Heart of Thorns) which is almost always on 50% discount, perfect bargain for tons of content. Also the game is giving away Living World Season 2 episodes for free.

Yet the steam page only has the GW2 base game with no directions to the paid expansions or living world episodes.

To put it simply, it's Free to Play for marketing reasons, yet Buy to Play in order to get the best experience where everyone is equal.

It's a fake free to play, if you want a mount you need to buy an entire expansion.. why? Bruh, a mount, a frigging mount. And don't tell me mounts aren't like mounts in other games, i know that, but they could give you the opportunity to buy just a trash mount only to travel, but they don't do that, because they want to push you to buy the expansion. Also, the developers are sleeping from a year or more, a lot of people are complaining about their "updates" that don't exist. I don't know how people still play this game lol, it's not even funny

Hey kid. When I was your age, I ventured throughout Tyria with just my bare legs. To get to achievements, I had to jump from platform to platform to get to them and descend onto the ground without using a glider. What you're experiencing is what Veterans have since launch. Mounts are cool, fast but they are not needed to venture into the world of Tyria. ANet could have punished you Freemiums to the point where you had to pay to progress the main story but they don't. The original game offers you hundreds of hours of content.

Guild Wars 2 is the only MMO right now that does dynamic events within an open world. There is no MMO that offers this gameplay, that is why there are still players playing the game. I mainly play FF14 now, I thought that Guild Wars 2 was dead but when I went to a low level event, there were over 20 players doing it. 40+ players for end game events.

I have the expansions and all of the LW episodes yet I still fork-out around £30 a month on gems. The free to play part of this game is the temptation, the rest will cost you probably more than any subscription.

I would say it's the most expensive MMO available to date but also the best MMO available to date.

magical wheelbarrow filled with ♥♥♥♥ and your character could sit in it, it could also come with its own mastery/skills that you can use '1 would make you invincible, because no monster wants to touch that ♥♥♥♥, 2 would leave permanent skid-marks in the current zone so the mentor players could track you and help you - I wouldn't mind that, for sure:steamthumbsup:
