Can I transfer my non-Steam account char to a new Steam account?
Since we cannot link them somehow (although other MMOs offer this), am I able to transfer my character at least?

I am willing to pay!

If you created your account through the official Guild Wars 2 website, you cannot log in to it through Steam, or vice versa. You will need to continue playing on your account using the launcher downloaded from the Guild Wars 2 website. Characters cannot be transferred between accounts.

Dang, I really wanted them to let us use our old accounts, especially if they add steam achievements, cards and steam point shop items

Maybe there'll be a workaround to just move your current install to the steam directory and change some files around or something

Well, luckily for you, GW2 runs from any folder you copy it's files into without reinstalling. Doesn't help with Steam integration but baby steps.

Honestly, what do you gain by bringing your old account to Steam? Or, rather, what do you lose by playing on your account as it is now?

I don't gain or lose anything. It's my preference to play games on Steam. And it was the only reason for coming back to me.
Then how about adding GW2 as a non-steam game?

I can't wait for the most friendly mmorpg in-game community to let loose on the influx.
We've been waiting for this a long time....

Funny you should mention that, I was thinking about sitting around in some of the starter areas by the new player spawn points to stand there and answer basic questions or help people if they need it.

No idea why, I just feel inclined to

You are not the only one. I always see veteran players with or without tag standing around Shaemoor Waypoint and answering questions in map chat. I'm sure it's the same in other starter zones but my "key person" runs that way most every week.

I don't have a tag I don't think. Maybe the mentor one, but I've never used it so I don't even know how to turn it on lol

Type /mentor in the chat. That simple. First time turns it on, second time turns it off.
You need the Pact Mentor mastery which is the first tier in the Pact Commander line.

How about you just don't try to tell me what to do? I know all the posibilities, don't worry. I know what I want.

Big welcome to all the GW2 newbies from Steam. I still don't understand why so many feel that Steam is the only way they'll play this game but will be glad to have you anyway. While I'm sure that Steam will have some good pricing on GW2 bundles, keep in mind that you can F2P up until level 80 (max level). All the expansions are lvl 80 content so you won't be able to experience them until you do much of the core content anyway. You do get a "free" mount if you purchase an expansion but, frankly, you can find some benefit to doing your first character up to 80 without a mount.

Until you reach lvl 80 and get an expansion, your builds will be called "leveling" or "core" builds. If you look for videos or websites for builds it can be a bit confusing because most/all of the "meta" builds use elite traits that are only available with the expansions at level 80 (after some work).

Good luck and welcome.

Given the robust achievement system in GW2 I find it hard to fathom what Steam could add to it. There are literally hundreds of achievements in the game and all come with some form of in-game reward (some quite good!).
