It's the Skyscale experience. It's a long and tedious quest but if you are so inclined to unlock Skyscale without doing it yourself, there ARE some dubious "skyscale unlocking services" out there where you paypal almost $100 and these guys will log into your account and do the entire skyscale quest for you over a couple of days.
I hope your account gets banned though.
Almost all of the jumping puzzles in that one step near the end can be skipped with shortcuts.
I wouldn't be against them letting people pay to skip since I really couldn't care less about if/how one gets it but I do think the complaints about unlocking it are again, overblown. I also think it feels great to finally unlock it and having it grow as you progress/raise it was kind of cool and for me at least, gave me more of a bond to it than any other mount I have.
The mount is definitely worth it as it's the best thing I have ever got in this game. It's a complete game changer when fully mastered, and the people that act like it isn't great probably just don't correctly learn how to use it because I too thought the mount was mediocre when I first tried the borrowed one in dragonfall. Just as an example of its greatness, I recently levelled up a character to 55 to use as my new bag opener and I did this by hitting waypoints and vistas around the map and the skyscale let me go into areas where I was 15-30 levels below without instantly dying from being one shot since I could just fly over all the enemies and easily hover over the waypoints or easily land at the vistas. No other mount would have let me do the stuff I was doing there. Then there is the dragonfall map which pretty much requires a skyscale to actually enjoy. You have many areas you need to wall climb, something you can't do with the griffon.
The only open world mount I don't yet have is the griffon and I do plan to get it but there is just no way it is going to be more useful than the skyscale is. Sure, it will almost surely be more fun and I guess more ideal for any super long distance of going from point A to B in wider open maps but not more useful. I'll probably use the skyscale to griffon jig in the air if I ever need to travel a long distance and want to do so quickly, not to mention when I just want to have fun flying around.
