It's just their way.
They should just get EAC, BattleEye or something else instead of their own in-house self-built hodgepodge.
Never had that happening all the years I have played, since 2012.
Just saying, not insinuated anything.
Good luck.
How do you know he was using what you call 'botting' software?
wait what? you can get banned if you have discord launched alongside the game?
The issue happens if the user has a process running in the background that the game considers as potentially harmful for the game.
A friend of mine experienced this when he had a singleplayer game trainer running in the background and since most trainers are made in cheatengine (including the one he was running), the system interpreted it as a harmful 3rd party software., resulting in a temp ban.
I don't know where the freaking heck this guy thinks an overclock program, 2 chat programs, and 2 video recording programs count as being banned from the game. While 3rd party software they are, they are no threat to the game itself so they would not even be read by the system as 'harmful'.
Posting on the forums wont make things any better. Take it how it is, I have seen people getting permanently banned for less than that.
You can get banned if you have discord have on screen display, developers dislike when third party software enters inside of the game (example: on screen display while in game).
Like if you have msi afterburner AND on screen display (rivatuner thing also have in game OSD to show fps, gpu temps etc) these can be reason of a ban. Uninstall rivatuner and keep msi afterburner outside of the game, then it is OK.
You should able to turn off/disable on screen displays so games anti cheat don't freak out.
Most of the comments here unaware such problems, I can teach Windows 10 how to lessons too if you want. But that would be boring so I gotta go,
oof... and that while requireing steam overlay in order to make in app purchases?
