The new Adventure Guide achievements give out an absurd amount of XP. Before that, 30 hours was about the average, I'd say. Now, map completion in the starter zone will get you into the level 25-30 range within 90 minutes of character creation if you want to.
Also, killing mobs is the least efficient way to gather XP in this game. Everything gives you experience yes, but Events, Renown Hearts, World Bosses and later Meta Events are the most important sources.
Obviously I can't do world bosses on my own, which leads to the question: What's it like getting help from other randoms to take down a boss?
I assume everyone in the surrounding area, if they are interested, just shows up at the location and just piles on the boss until it's dead?
Use whatever cheap utility buff (sharpening stone, etc) for 10% xp buff, buy some candy corn custard from the trading post for a cheap food buff that gives another 15% xp, join a guild to get another 10% xp buff from the guild hall tavern and then if you're willing to blow some laurels (which you'll get here and there, daily login reward sometimes) at the laurel vendor you can get another 50% xp buff for an 85% xp bonus total, all without wasting money in the gem store.
Kill the yellow neutral mobs that most people leave alone, usually worth more bonus xp because they've been alive longer. Grind in areas less frequented. Charr areas are usually pretty good in my experience.
That said, unless you just feel like grinding and/or really can't wait to get an 80, I wouldn't be in too much of a hurry. I didn't boost a character until I had leveled my first character to 80 and didn't regret it, probably took somewhere around 30 hours of play to get there just casually doing events and filling hearts and doing story. Yeah, there's a whole world of things to do at 80 but you know, the adventure is the reward and other adages to that effect. If you just play the game the levels will come.
For a compromised sort of leveling experience, I'd say just use cheap utility and food buffs for an extra 25% kill xp and make completing the adventure guide in your journal a side project. Just doing that will accelerate your leveling process quite a bit while you do story and explore and other things that are probably more fun to you than grinding.
if you have pof you can get %10 perma. xp buff from guild hall enchantment ( you have to join a guild)
food gives you %10 extra xp
utility gives you %10 extra xp
all can stack so total bonus will be %30...
(use cheapest food and utility foods. each buff 30 mins)
save your free booster for alt characters (pof gives you 1 free boost, eod gives you 1 free boost. total is 2. )
Maybe it's worthwhile to show up on the map a bit ahead of the start of the event just in case the influx of players coming for the same boss should have you placed in an empty instance.
Check the timers on the wiki ( https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Event_timers ) to know which boss happens when. Every starter zone has one, for example.
Instead of raising the level cap every expansion, GW2 added the "Mastery" system, which is a bunch of permanent account-wide upgrades you earn through experience (and certain achievements that give you "mastery points") after reaching level 80. Masteries allow you to do things like automatically loot enemies, run faster in capital cities, use a glider, jump farther with your mounts, and so on. That way you are still earning XP towards improving your characters, but your gear and build is never made irrelevant.
Another reason levelling is so fast is because of a new set of achievements they added recently, intended to guide new players on things to do, and give xp on completion. I don't know how much experience they give, but any amount more than zero will speed it up. The game automatically scales you down to the level of the content you are doing, and most (if not all) xp gains are percentage based rather than flat, so being overlevelled isn't nearly as big a deal as it is in other games.
Did I say that I did?
I already said that I don't have the expansions yet previously.
Done it in 55 mins.
How?
I just leveled faster then SinisterSlay.
Thinking that next time could multi-box to do two at same time. :)
What? I am at 24 hours and only level 41. Not sure what I am doing wrong lol. Been doing hearts, events as I see them, and story the whole time. I did play PvP a bit, but it was only like 3 matches so far.
At this rate closer to 50 hours for me to hit max.
Yeah, that's how I'm feeling right now.
I keep asking how, but nobody seems to give a comprehensive answer as to how they did it in sub 3 hours.
I get all the XP pots are important and that sort of thing, but no one says "this is how I did it in sub 3 hours" in a comprehensive manner, so it's kind of like did they do it in sub 3 hours, or are they just saying that they did?
