My personal gear stat choice is berserker's when I can I get it. If not I try to find something that has similar stats
For weapons I use the greatsword most if the time but the swords and new spear have tied in well for me.
Abilities, on content other than raid I use "Your Soul Is Mine!", "Suffer!", and "You Are All Weaklings!" (stun break). Those 3 give extra damage to struck foes, for the last 2 I switch between "Nothing Can Save You!", and one of the Wells that does damage, and "Your Soul Is Mine!" or flesh golem for posture bar damage on bosses.
Try to keep max Vulnerability on enemies and max Might on yourself. A little thing with reapers shrouds 2, maybe its just me but if you dont back up first not all the hits register when charging forward.
Also the GW2 wiki states "Damage value is calculated with the weapon strength of the active weapon before shroud is activated" so that might be something to keep in mind.

This is typically where you'll find hardcore DPS minded players.
1- understand that you can queue and cancel skills, and how the combat works;
2- take snowcrows.com build;
3- open benchmark video, study it;
4- open benchmark's dps log (from dps.report), go to "Player Summary"->"Simple Rotation"
5- study the actual rotation and execute it as close as possible to benchmark, grind the golem for hours with breaks;
6- once you reach around 95% benchmark, focus on first number only until you get a perfect opener, then move onto second number, then 3rd and then 4th. This way you train the missing 5% from benchmark step-by-step.
7- you can now proceed to outdps every single pug dps with a boondps build (this is true already from step 3-4)
8- enjoy being always top dps
9- quit the game because you now see that 95% of people in gw2 can't play the game
Don't listen to those 95% of players, just learn from the 5% is the best tip.
Discretize is great for fractals.
