Guild Wars 2

Guild Wars 2

Everyone gets the Warclaw mount 😸
In case you don't have the Warclaw mount and didn't see the recent post, I have good news for you, Anet confirmed that changes to the warclaw mount but also, I quote:
"Beginning with the August 20 game update, the warclaw mount will be automatically unlocked for all players who own Guild Wars 2®: Heart of Thorns™ or Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire™. "

"The Warclaw Companion collection will no longer be required to unlock the warclaw.

However, it will still be available, with additional rewards for players who want to complete it: a War Machine Weapon Skin Selection chest and 250 WvW skirmish claim tickets.

If you've already completed the collection at any point in the past, you'll automatically receive these additional rewards the first time you log in after the August 20 game update."

So... I seen some gameplay, that Warclaw "jump" ability is absolutely moronic.. please tell me they're not going to launch the next expansion with that included?

Sorry but having a Warclaw capable of being permanently "airborne" via constant jumping is stupid and it looks completely out of place in Gw2... might as well give the Warclaw rocket boots..

If that's how it's going to be then I hope the expansion is going to be playable without whatever mastery gives it that ability... because I sure as hell don't want to unlock it and will gladly refuse to do so if possible.

It is weird because they invalided more mounts with it.

Raptor, semi useless now with warclaw.
Rabbit, totally useless with skyscale unless you need defiance break.
Turtle, never ended up having use. They are trying though.
Skimmer, invalidated by skyscale, brought back because of underwater ability.
Sand dog name that I am having trouble remembering because it became useless minutes after POF ended. There was the debate of if it was faster than raptor. But I think new warclaw puts that to bed.

Which leaves warclaw for general purpose, skyscale for flying, beetle for fast, but everyone forgets it, and griffon for fun, but everyone forgets it.

Raptor is still the best general use mount imo, gets you where you need to go fairly quickly but Beetle does greatly outclass it on open terrain.
A lot of areas in the game are better to go Raptor on though, well unless you're extremely good with a Beetle.

Rabbit, totally useless with skyscale unless you need defiance break.

Yep.. this mount has lost almost all it's utility, the defiance damage is the only reason anyone even uses this mount anymore.. well if they have a choice anyway.

Turtle, never ended up having use. They are trying though.

It has some utility in some events, especially in Cantha but overall not enough.
The only thing i've actually found it useful for is helping players glitch through barriers to skip daily minidungeons etc..
There was also a way you could use it to screw with AFK farmers which did make it quite appealing for a while lol.

In the end though I didn't even bother unlocking this mount, I beat Soo Won plenty of times but that's as far into the Turtle unlocking as I cared to go, and could be bothered to go.
I don't need it for anything and frankly I probably wouldn't use it even if I did have it anyway.

Skimmer, invalidated by skyscale, brought back because of underwater ability.

I dunno about that, Skyscales can't fly forever but the can fly long enough to cover most water areas in the game.. but not all of them.
Skimmers did have racing though which is fun.

Making them go underwater was a good upgrade, though part of me did want a purely underwater mount like a Dolphin or something.
Still, i'll take what I can get there, any upgrade to underwater is a welcome one for me.

Sand dog name that I am having trouble remembering because it became useless minutes after POF ended. There was the debate of if it was faster than raptor. But I think new warclaw puts that to bed.

Sand Jackal, yeah pretty irrelevant outside of POF areas, the portals were the only real benefit of them and they were used sparingly anyway.

I think this mount needs a burrowing mechanic of some kind, a way to travel underground and uncover some kind of new minidungeons or something.. underground caves, catacombs and tombs that players can raid for treasures and pieces of old worn down weapons and armour which the player could then "restore" in some way to get unique weapon and armour skins that can only be obtained from that content.

Something like that could be a lot of fun, especially if the underground areas you can explore differ greatly in enemy types, bosses and their design and architecture depending on the region you are in when you go exploring underground.

What's going on underground these days is a mystery after all.. now that Primordus is gone the depths of the world are ripe for exploring once again.

Which leaves warclaw for general purpose, skyscale for flying, beetle for fast, but everyone forgets it, and griffon for fun, but everyone forgets it.

I use Beetle and Griffon quite a bit tbh, they're both the fastest ways to travel if you can get from A-B without wrecking lol

But yeah I really hate this air hopping Warclaw thing.. I seriously hope Anet nerf it down for the expansion release or at the very least stop it from regen stamina while it's "airborne" so you can only jump a couple of times.

As it is now it completely invalidates the Skyscale as well.

Skyscale is kind of annoying to use. So honestly if it was brought down to warclaw, griffon, beetle. I wouldn't be too upset. Except why did we need warclaw when sand jackle could have had the ability instead and make a ton more sense while doing it, and create a unique fun movement where you switch between teleports and air jumps.
We know the answer of course, they wanted to sell more warclaw skins

You find Skyscale annoying to use?
How so?

I've never had any trouble with it personally, well except those times it kinda glitches out and gets wall latched to thin air.. but I always found that kinda funny tbh.

There is a bug with it though that allows you to gain infinite flying, that is very fun if you can get it to work.
I unintentionally did it once and got to fly freely around Skywatch for a while, but I was never able to replicate it intentionally :(
It may have only been a one time 20 minute experience but man did I love every second of that freedom :D

The warclaw sucks, to be honest. But it is the only mount that works in WvW. I am curious to see what masteries will make it viable in PvE.

But for those that haven't earned it... Yay, free big kitty!

Slow and latches onto everything, usually random pieces of the environment. If I use it, it's usually to get high enough to switch to griffon. It's just so much faster and more pleasant to use. Or I'll use skyscale to escape a fight.

Hahahaha, what? They're seriously buffing the warclaw to be superior to the raptor?
Warclaw sucks. It was a half-arsed last-minute "ok we'll add mounts to WvW" addition. It's literally the griffon model but with different textures. And they're gonna buff that to be the mount everyone uses?

They're really grasping at straws with the whole "must-have expansion!" stuff. Jesus.

I think it has 2 or 3 air jumps, and it always jumps as high as its starting point. So you can't really jump up easily with it, but you can get really far with it.

How in the hell did they get the notion that "air jumps" is what the warclaw needed?
It's meant to be made of metal. It has these metallic clanging noises when moving. Doesn't really scream "air jump mount".

Yeah got me, should be sand jackle. It would make total sense on that mount. But you can't sell new skins like that.

Anyways I think anet might be ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bricks at this point. The official forums are almost silent, and they have sent 3? emails begging us to preorder the expansion?

This video did actually give me some hype though
https://youtu.be/rwEsZzLO_0U
It seems like they have fixed a lot of past mistakes. I am glad they aren't doing map metas first this time, I hate those. They are going back to a world boss. So great.
Sadly the world boss they are making is supposed to be super hard, like Soo Won. So it will be completely abandoned after the raider run through the content quickly and enough times to farm whatever it is they have to farm.
The map looks good. The mount movement, though dumb, looks fun. And it has maybe fun events again? Maybe?

It's 2 dodges and one air jump.

The mounts overlap, but each one has it's own advantages.

I don't think Warclaw will be able to change directions like Jackal and I am pretty sure Jackal will still be faster on inclines.

Edit: I stand corrected. Looks like 3 air jumps.
