I am not far enough to know if I have to do nearly every achievement to get enough masteries like SoTO required. I liked when it was more optional, so I have quite a few spare mastery points on all my other expansions. But I have less spares after each expansion.
Can't forget that lovely mastery point from path of fire in desert highlands, more precisely inside primeval kings tomb, you had to unlock griffon to get it, at least that was anet intention but players managed to grab it with the help of bunny mount and few other tricks, it was like a puzzle and time consumign for a mastery point.
Then the HoT mastery points... in verdant brink, most of em way up high which requires you to get Gliding mastery 1st then shroom mastery and wait till meta and finally defeat champions like guano mastery point and the itzel frogs.
it's been always like this, challenging, difficult and yes sometimes a big pain u knwo where but some other tims there's no challenge at all and the points are just there for you to grab em like many soto masteries and in janthir in the forest there are like 3-4 points that require nothing at all just you to reach the spot and interact.
