It's just a flying mount man...
Why does Arenanet want you to hate this game just in order to unlock a Flying Mount? I just read that everyone hates this process, nobody thinks unlocking is fun, so why are they so stubborn about it?

GW2 is very unwelcoming towards new players unless you spend real money and i agree that giving easier access to mounts and more QoL without having to pay real money would be a step into the right direction.

I literally started when GW2 came to Steam, my account is not even 2 years old yet, will be in august.
I have literally everything, got the Skyscale last summer before SotO
So, you know, certain things you mention can excuse just so much, bit in the end that's all they really are - excuses

Ehmmm.. can already get SO much free QoL things (i bought all my spaces for free) with Gold to Gems conversion. Literally the only game that lets you actually do it for free on this scale this easily. :)

The f2p core is literally that, f2p version to play core etc, but if wants "full experience"/account, gotta get HoT+PoF at minimum that is like buying the actual "base game" these days if liked what gets for free. And then can just convert gold to gems as much as wants. ^^

In most other similar (typical mmo games that has no sub, and even in those that have got some silly annoying stuff that has to pay on top of sub..) games it's actual extortion, like ESO craft bag.. and nope, you cannot trade in game gold to pay for that, you can only pay with real money directly to ZOS. You pay for game there already before can play it, then they have made same as every game, little space, unless pays.. and there not only few times or by farming gold, but every month gotta pay real money or cannot put items in bank etc because it gets locked and only can remove things. And crafting bag gets closed so all crafting materials that comes to inventory do not go to craft bag anymore, so that is ESO for you.

In GW2? Can farm all characters bag slots, bank slots, and storage to max with gold in game and convert to gems and get for free. Most fair system there is. You can be the one buying gems with gold, just takes effort.. Again, easy when enjoys doing content. :D

WoW and FF14 have subs (and cash shop on top of that) so they get a lot of budget from that. GW2 has no sub, AND can just farm gold and buy bag space slots, bank slots, storage, mount skins, cosmetics, everything for free. Show other games on same scale with same fully open cash store to buy anything with just farming gold? Show all those successful and still alive games to me, thank you! :)

The budget to keep team making content comes from somewhere, GW2 model is quite generous for those who spend a bit effort on earning gold, and gets everything for free. No need to complain when just plays smart and has all QoL AND even cosmetics for free on top of that too. Again, show all other still alive and healthy MMO games where i can repeat that same with equally fair in game conversion? :)

I started to play last spring (2023) and have got me everything i want, account full of cosmetics, all mounts, everything. And all that for free. I own all expansions and soon got 2k hours, in 1 year of playing. :) All it takes is just playing smart and can have everything. Anything else is just excuses from those who want everything without any kind of effort. And the effort is literally just playing the game, that is supposed to be the fun part in the activity we all share. Like imagine playing the game you are supposed to be playing to progress in it? :D

Friend started playing after Endwalker was slowing down and Dawntrail was on the horizon, and she got a skyscale just fine. They made the process so much easier than it was when we veterans did it, you get all the map currency for the saddle given basically for free, the feeding and playing step takes a few days instead of a week, and that's just if you still do the PoF version. The SotO version is even quicker and cheaper, it just needs the provisioner tokens you mentioned, but you can buy the materials you need for those for less than 1 gold each, so that is less than 30 gold for all the tokens you need; hardly a burden for a new player.

Been playing this game on and off for years and years, never unlocked the flying mount, never caused me any issue. Its not a big deal.

I don’t have it yet, looking forward to unlocking it. It’s just another collection to look forward to. I have all other mounts and waited for this one on purpose. Gryphon is awesome to fly, the ‘not having to glide’ of skyscale is nice to work for.

People out here with 1,000 hours saying "its not hard, come on guys". I joined relatively recently timeline wise and honestly I only have the Skyscale because of Soto, seeing how daunting the grind was without Soto really pushed me away from ever getting it in the first place.

That's cause your going at it like a grind.
My wife and I did it when it was new. We knew it was coming, we knew that every time the heart sells the local currency, so buy them every time. And when skyscale was released, we had most of it just because we had been playing normally. The skyscale food turned into a profitable thing we were selling for months. But we never actually grinded for the skyscale. We just worked at it a couple hours each play time and that's it.

Stop trying games as work, and stop encouraging anet to turn gw2 into work.

Are you somehow under the impression that ALL those 1000 hours went ONLY into getting the Skyscale or something? What kind of logic is this even?
When I was getting my Skyscale last year from Living World S4, it took me 2 weeks MAX., and I was going at it at a very slow and leisurly pace, but if you had time to play every day for several hours it could be rushed even faster probably, without a doubt
So, as I said to the person above, it all just boils down to y'all folks having a bunch of excuses, because you're not willing to go and get something. It's the same unlock collection for everyone and it has been since day 1

Y'all can say that it's hard and whatnot, but it all boils down to it being just like it is in real life -> when you want something, you need to go and get it, and not just whine until it falls into your lap on a silver platter

That is literally it, some people are doing it as a fast "grind" that is supposed to get as fast as can.. even tho can do effort for it in slower pace while doing other content too that also likes while at it. There is absolutely zero reason to tunnel vision just 1 thing, especially if that is not someones personal favorite part/content of the game.

The gaming should be ones progress system but it also should be fun while at it. I feel some people are their own worst enemy by squeezing the fun out of the game with urge to have everything instantly. Best is to learn see long term goals as chill and fun activities that slowly puts effort in until gets them, it actually feels then like something. If gets stuff just handed out as "login reward" type of thing, it has zero value for me. Anything with actual effort and progression, i remember always doing that and feel good about it.

And combine & multitask is efficient and fun. Like in many things in game in other ways also, as WvW player for example i can pick the right reward track (like SotO reward track has been useful for several things and the track that gives the 100 Winterberries box :P ) and combine things that getting from it with the actual PVE overland playing and getting resources and mats from more than one source based on whatever i feel like playing that day. :)

True happiness for me comes from having fun while doing these things at my own pace and combining things i enjoy doing them. If there would be something i would not have fun doing, i'd just not do it. But people here are supposed to be gamers.. and playing the game to get the things you want as goals you set. No idea how that is so hard concept for some.. like the whole point of the game is to get cool stuff (and fun gameplay loops for each to their own liking, be it WvW, PVP or oveland events or raids) and have fun while at it.

Hope you all are having fun week! :UDG_Heart:

I am hyped and waiting for Janthir Wilds, hopefully it will also have some long term goals/collections/achievements for me to work on. ^^

A good argument, I'd say, unless you're honestly trying to convince people here that having to unlock flying every time a new expansion comes around in Blizzard-style is better than unlocking it once and having it unlocked forever afterwards

And you can speak only for yourself, continually repeating the words "something that nobody likes" is simply not true, because plenty of people enjoy collections and unlocks.

Blizzard changed that and unlocking flying now is pretty much just finishing a quest that takes a few minutes.

So you can do one quest in WoW and every character on your account gets access to their flying mount? I didn't think Blizz would be that generous...

People are taking this way out of context, I'm not saying to get something like a skyscale or legendary gear easily. It's mostly everyone who have been playing this game for years downplaying just how much of a process this stuff can be especially for someone getting into the endgame grinds and rewards who doesn't have a backlog of resources.

Its meant to be hard cause most of the time its a big pay-off for all that work.

stuff like griffons skyscale and legendaries are meant to be long term goals. None of those are manditory at all. Play the game at your own pace and unlock them. Whats the point of rushing through the games content by grinding? Of course you wont enjoy it, cause you are forcing yourself to not play at your own pace.
