It's going to be years before we get GW3.
For me, I've had GW2 since 2012, and I always come back to play it because it's fun.
When GW3 comes out, I'll probably move on to it, but it's not going to stop me from playing GW2 now. GW2 has a very casual character progression and gear process, so I won't feel like I'm losing anything if I move onto something else.
There's STILL a bunch of people on GW1 to this day as well.
That said, yes.
Go full in, take your monies worth for whole different reasons than just a mythical GW3 popping up out of nowhere.
To be fair, GW3 publicity would only have the effect of GW2 losing money because no one new would want to commit after the latest and greatest sequel is announced.
cool. Thanks peeps. Will start getting some more hours in between street fighter and Crosscode/death stranding
2030 at the earliest.
The publisher spoke too early due to needing investor money, without understanding how it impacts an MMO community.
I think they are developing it, early in pre-pro. The publisher needs the cash as far as I understand and GW2 is the one big thing they have. Makes sense
I believe Anet is just trying to damage control.
All gross speculation of course, I don't know squat.
ncsoft biggest success and most beloved sons are "Lineage" and "Lineage 2" those games were massive in south korea, eastern europe, south east asia and latin america, not so much in north america and some parts of europe.
Lineage games are one of the most disgusting p2w games ever made, you literally need thousands of dollars worth of lootboxes to get decent, powerful items to be competitive. They have at least 3 lineage mobile games and yes those are even more p2w trash.

arenanet is the gw2 developer, ncsoft the publisher, so no, i wouldn't consider gw2 being the "one big thing" for NCsoft but it is the one big thing they have for western market and their only mmo without the p2w, gear treadmill, vertical progression in ncsoft catalogue.
NCsoft is about to release the next "spiritual" successor of Lineage, a new mmorpg called "Throne and Liberty" which has been a big thing in asia and korea lately and soon closed beta will be available for NA

NCsoft needs few years to get a solid playerbase for a game that was supposed to be "Lineage 3" and they won't allow competition from their own studios or anet by developing, announcing, confirming gw3. imo gw3 wont be a thing for the next 3 years. It's safe to dive into gw2 and enjoy the game, the only thing that ncsoft corpo suits said in such meeting is that gw3 was plausible but that it, the amount of speculation and theories from the past days has been disproportionate and absurd imo, not saying that your comment is absurd dont get me wrong, just saying that corpo suits said the usual thing they say in every big meeting and ppl take it the wrong way.
Well, it could be churned out like crap. Like, it could definitely go the route of Genshin Impact or some Korean mmos. Anet could just reskin it over ips that they already have.
The reason GW2 has so many issues is that it uses GW1s engine beyond it's limitations.
You're assuming that a development team will start from the ground up. They won't unless they really have to.
