question about End of Dragons
Hi. I was just looking at the store page to see which expansion I might get next, if any.
When I looked at the EoD comments I noticed a couple of players stated that you should *NOT* buy it through Steam as Steam apparently doesn't provide the code to be able to play it. They recommend the web site for the game itself. Anyone have anything more specific on that? I got everything else through Steam and it works fine.
I am developing a second character slot in GW2 for now, but have played through most of HoT and PoF. I still need some mastery points for ascended gear, and only have the first 4 mounts in game, but once I have all that done I find that I keep coming back to Guild Wars 2.

If you already went the steam route ... Then you'll have to purchase on steam to apply expansions to same account.
Can't mix and match

I doubt you wont be able to apply the key
Can you be ore specific on what issue they had?

"Do NOT buy this if you are using your original GW2 account as you will not have access to the DLC unless you make a brand new account through the Steam Launcher!"

Is this the review you are refering to?

If so .. Yes seems he bought it on steam and tried to apply to his account from outside steam
This is not possible
But if you already have it on steam
This wont be an issue

Thanks for the reply. That's one of two that I saw. I guess your interpretation of it must be correct, the individual tried to mix accounts or something. No one has had any other problems? I still have a lot of time to consider it. My second character just made level 80, but is still doing the personal story.

In theory you should first have all of the Living World before you get End of Dragons, since it contains a huge part of the story as well as a huge chunk of content. Since you already own HoT+PoF you are now forced to buy it in the ingame gem store with gems. Though I guess if you played without the LW so far you probably already noticed huge story gaps inbetween the different expansions.

The only reason why I would suggest getting the newest expansion, SotO, would be because it unlocks a few rewards in the Wizards Vault. Other than that I think you should always try to play the story in order, since there isn't really any big reason to skip much of it.

Btw,

What do you mean with that? It's news to me that you would need any mastery points for ascended gear. There are many ways to get ascended gear and I don't know any that requires masteries.

Maybe in a round about way you need it to make viper gear? As the first example in my head.

For SinisterSlay:

You have a couple of things in your comments. First off, I have played through some of the Living World content, but had a tough time with it. I will go back to it to get more of the game content. I've noticed the roller beetle, for example, is acquired in LW3? I think it's 3. LW1 and LW2 kicked my butt, so I've been leary about getting back to them, but I'll get there.
Your other question should be more obvious. Yes, I can get Caladbolg through normal game play, but to *craft* ascended you need mastery points. I skipped a lot to get the mounts, and spent mastery points on them until it got tiring. So, yeah, I have to get back to getting mastery points for ascended crafting at some point. At this time, I think I can make the initial weapons, but to complete the weapons I need more mastery points. Specifically, I have two mastery points toward level 3, "Historian of the Armaments", and still the last one before I can get through the precursor weapons. I believe most of the ... old-timers? .. who played from the original (before any add-ons) got all that done a long time ago. Like most, I skipped it to do the other things that seemed more fun and seem to make parts of the game easier.
Hope that covers it. Bit off topic though.

Oh you are talking about legendaries.

Don't burn yourself out on them, they have the exact same stats as ascended, which is barely any better than exotic. In fact, exotic is strong enough for all the content in the game easily. LS1 and LS2 are kind of hard if coming from core Tyria. There is a big difficulty jump.. Keep practising, check your character builds. Post here if you want ideas on builds.
Going to talk DPS numbers here, You should be able to sustain 5k DPS for LS1 and LS2. 7k dps for the rest of the game content.

Guess that is true, but I hope to get enough to do all the masteries in game. Can't see why I shouldn't be able to. This is one of the games I always end up coming back to, and I can jump right back in where I left off.

I *do* get burned out on the grinding in this game. I started years ago and lost everything but some old video recordings. Then came back to the point I mentioned before, so I know have this round with two characters. My main character is a well-developed ranger/druid/soulbeast/untamed sylvari. He doesn't get it every time, but I've seen him hit for the 32k dps advertised on Youtube. So I'm playing pretty regularly now.

My second character seemed to do okay in LW1 - so far. Not sure if I finished it yet. Since the game lets me know at this point when I could "have a better build" with something stronger added, I've been less cautious about purchasing better stuff. I like crafting, though, and wish I could craft everything I need. So my warrior just started level 400 jewels. Just have to get back into the areas I never did the extra masteries. I got a very pleasant surprise when I happened to join in a battle against Tequatl the Sunless; lots of mastery points I wasn't aware of. Just need to get those types of things.

Thanks for all the help and advice though. Just wondered because of the mixed opinions and occasional problems with EoD's originally, and now hear on line that Secrets of the Obscure may also have mastery points for Central Tyria. Coming up on retirement (if I ever get all the paperwork done), so I'll have a lot of time to play, but not a lot of $$ to waste.

The mob damage/moveset difficulty peaks in PoF. Generally it’s a good idea to run some def stat items and/or get a lvl 10 bot core that gives 235(?) vitality and always grab the jade bot buffs. (They have been buffnerfed recently to longer duration but less active utility).

EOD is worth it for the bot and buffs alone but it also has very cool and nicely designed zones and a solid story.

Central Tyria and Icebrood are the most annoying points to get because depending on the content you run they may get very sparse towards the end when you reach your last couple of skills to unlock.
