Not it's not like WoW .. Not at all actually ...
Every single map is still relevant
You don't outlevel zones like you do in WoW and old content is still played
whats the best expansion to start with in terms of cool features ? or is it not worth doing until iv played the free version?
Depends if you care about story
That's one of the good thing about GW2, you can play it how you want
You can play this for a long time and might even be a sale in the near future on the expansions
I think EoD was on par with HoT.
I know I'm not exactly in the majority with that opinion though.
But it's very subjective.
I spend a lot of time fishing. So I'm biased.
I can see why many find it boring I guess though, but I find it kind of relaxing way to farm gold while listeneing to youtube
Jade bot was a decent feature.
In HoT, gliding cool too, but not as relevant any longer with mounts ofc.
So I prefer EoD when it comes to features
But HoT has better looking maps for sure.
They are both similar in terms of meta events. But HoT probably did them better
I won't comment on the story as I don't care much about the story in gw2
SoTo by far my least favorite. 1 update to go yeah, we'll see what it brings
Wizard vault is nice, has that going for it
PoF by far my favorite, brought mounts. Best thing they ever did.
I'm also not big on meta events in general compared to many other people.
So I liked the more linear focus of PoF and the maps were just beautiful
Living world can be bought with gold (gems) and is apparently the least of your worries.
EoD when on sale if you still are playing by that point.
Secrets of the obscure whenever that thing is at 90% discount.
here's the GW2 tl;dr:
Almost 70% of it.
Get it even outside of sale when you start getting hooked.
It's embarrasingly woke and nobody should pay full price for it.
But it unlocks important "classes" and fishing... also turtles (if you like them).
Tons of content too.
Fully unlocks the daily system rewards, new weapons and most importantly,
easy access to the flying mount.
Not that much content, basically our new payed-for-in-advance version of
LIVING WORLD
Buy with Gems in-game.
What passed for expansions before they started making real ones again.
Some might even say it's a good motivator to grind in-game Gold and buy Gems with it.
Welcome to the game,
now I usually post my favorite GW2 streamer's vid for beginers.

Treat the Base game (free version) as their demo. You'll get introduced to their UI and basic lore of their universe to get you prepared for the expansions. Basically the pilot season.
Each expansion acts as a season in terms of TV series, with each expansion stories connected to the next. And with each expansion unlocks a new region, mechanics, events, bosses, raids etc. You are not forced to do one storyline. You can hop from one to another as you wish. I finished my Path of Fire before Heart of Thorns because I love the mounts.
So I'd recommend getting Heart of Thorns for glider and Path of Fire for mounts to get you started. Then follow through with End of Dragons then Secrets of Obscure if you like the previous two. Living World series are optional but if you like the rewards they offer then you can get them.
NOTE: Mounts in Guild Wars 2 are not for cosmetic purposes and that's why they have their own DLC. They're very useful for map completion and to help you reach places.
