Store items rotate, so you probably just haven't seen them on the store yet
And also emotes to unlock through achievements
But LOTRO has better animations?
I like LOTRO a lot, but GW2 animations are far better than LOTRO
lotro has dozens probably a hundred emotes it's insane, my favorites are dramatic defeat and "chiken drive" which you obtain by playing hobnanigans event where you kick chickens cuz it's like a football game.
Emotes mean money, gw2 took long to release more until Icebrood saga and slowly they have been releasing more thats a good thing but i think they need to add even more and faster, the amount of people who bought black lion keys to get "unleashed" emote is quite high during day one i could see ppl showing off at big events,
some lotro emote animations are a bit crude, i think its easier for them to do emotes cuz the animations barely change between races so they apply same animation lets say, for "faint" when you look how elves, humans, dwarfs and hobbits pass out they pretty much do the same expression then in GW2 lets use "laugh" as example, asura dont laugh like charr and viceversa neither human or norn. Then in lotro some dances are cringe lol, a bit weird like medieval silly dances, makes sense its good for immersion but my point is that the way the toon moves makes me believe that LOTRO uses some kind of motion capture then translate the data to a skeleton in 3d software and apply the animation to existing 3d meshes/models, GW2 animations are more like hand made from scratch, like animating a pixar or disney 3d movie and that's more time consuming.
its easy to spot this cuz some lotro emotes look a bit uncanny, the movement the pace is like something you would expect from real people doing such action as in emote.
Think I remember beng able to smoke a pibe though lol
But when you just look at animations overall, GW2 is much better
Charr and Asua probably have the most impressive animations of the races
Combat animations, mount animations etc
I think GW2 is generally very impressive in this area compared to most MMOs
I like LOTRO a lot. But it's very oldschool
I don't remember being impressed by any animations
But I will try to remember checking out some more emotes if I play again :)
anyways agreed gw2 animations are pretty cool, specially asura and charr that's right, humans are the most simple, norn tend to be agressive, big clumsy creatures bluffing like wrestlers or typical barbarians that it. The thing is that lotro has a zillion emotes, wine tasting, toss coin, sneeze, then all sort of consumables like frog potion, jars with bugs, snowballs you can actually throw and hit players with lol etc my point is that gw2 should follow the example and add more emotes and comsumables that actually do something to other players.
What makes WoW oldschool, but not LOTRO?
Just release date?
They are also like only 2.5 years apart
lotro is 40 years old. Nobody plays that.
lotro is one of the best mmo's played by many ppl, full with lore, rich with stories, well written dialogues, quests and the best camera, FOV, perspective etc in any mmo ive ever played, the buildings literally feel the proper size, the world feels massive, the forests and dungeons and caves are huge, Exploring Moria could take days and rohan probably weeks or more and ...
lotro is probably the mmo with more emotes in the genre... and WoW of course
https://lotro-wiki.com/wiki/Emote
Just check that massive list, we need more emotes for GW2 pleaseee!!!!
i would like to see race specific emotes like for asura , they take out one of their portable holo thingies or for norn , they use a big barrel to drink from
- Rockout
- Shiver
- Shiver plus
- Playdead
- Stretch
2022 (5 emotes )
- Rock
- Paper
- Scissor
- Hiss
- Serve tea
2023 ( 6 emotes )
- Sip coffe (exclusive emote by purchasing real "madrinas" coffee)
- Read book
- Magic Juggle (Soto deluxe edition exclusive emote)
- Possessed
- Bless
- Heroic
- Unleash
16 emotes in 5 years is not enough, we definitely need more and more emotes!!!!
yes release date i like considering everything before wow as the true old school aka everquest, ultima online, asherons call, tibia, etc.
Then 2nd wave came with everquest 2, wow, lineage 2, eve online even guild wars 1 but idk why everything made after 2005 should belong to diff category i mean its totally made up, just saying that wow was developed during early 2000's with a late 90's mentality while lotro most likely developed during early-mid 2000's then released in 2007 having inspiration from mmos from 2004 like WoW and the old school from late 90's etc.
