Steam Achievements ?
Hey, just a wild thought. I know it could be a long stretch, but why doesn't Anet do Steam achievements for the steam users. For example complete 100 dungeons, Complete Story Modes, Complete all quest hearts, Discover a jumping puzzle ? Just the base game days for achievements ?

Probably because they already have way too many achievements ingame and porting them all over to Steam would be too much work. And making brand new achievements for Steam would be extra work.

maybe just few steam achievements? like 50 or something?

There are a lot of games on Steam that don't have Steam achievements, rather they have in-game achievements.

Honestly, I don't see the value in Steam achievements either since there is a vast achievement system already that include rewards and an Achievement Points (AP) score. There is even a leaderboard that tracks AP scores.

You should've waited just ONE more day so you could get your "monthly achievement thread" achievement? :cozypoesad:

I just wanted to put that out there, as something like this can create more work yes, but also drive the player base up for steam users. But it's just a wild thought, I wouldn't go as far as porting the games achievements to steam as there is too many I understand that. But give the root of gw2 a go again allowing new players to experience this MMO on that scale.

Someone asked the same exact thing and met with the exact same response. So I'll spell mine with roughly the same idea:

There's already an achievement tab in game with points. And there are a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bunch of them, and some of the achievements existing in the game are unobtainable anymore.

Having Guild Wars 2 on steam is just to draw some spotlights into the game even though the game is already popular and 95% (source: out of thin air) have created their account before the steam launch. So a vast majority of the players aren't using steam but the standalone launcher instead.

I'd be ok with it so long as I could access my account on Steam, which I can't.

I've been playing a long time, have over at least 35k AP in Gw2.
If I wanted to hunt the game for Steam (which i'd like to) i'd have to start all over again.. this is just unfair.

that's not really the case. As long as the "done" flag has been properly set, you can earn the achievement IF they do plan to add some. That happened to Risk of Rain 2 when it didn't had achievements, then it did after a particular update.

But, if you played the game before that point, and after said point, you'll have a bunch if not all of the achievements unlocked the moment you get into your account, and if you are really nipicky about it or out of fear of being called a cheater, well yea, enjoy restarting all over again.

I was referring to not being able to use my account on Steam, I play on the official client.
If I want to hunt the game for achievements i'd have to do it on a fresh account and start over from nothing.. probably would have to buy all the living world and expansions again etc.

I'm not willing to do that for a few steam achievements, enough though i'd love to have Gw2 as a perfect game.
That's why I said it would be unfair.

I don't know if you read the FAQ or the wiki but if you wanna play on steam using anet account, -provider Portal is your salvation.

Never heard of it, last I looked into the subject Anet were adamant that you would not be able to use your Anet account to play Gw2 on Steam.

I am not aware of any change in that regard.

He meant that by using this comand you can force the Steam GW2 launcher to launch in the regular launcher mode so you can type in your account data and password to login. But this still won't connect your regular GW2 account to your Steam account, so it won't allow you to buy anything on Steam but at least you can use the Steam GW2 launcher to .... idk ... collect Steam playtime? There really isn't much of an advantage to do this.

Ahh it's a launch command, I though it was some kind of 3rd party mod software or something.

I don't think it would work for achievements tbh, could be wrong though but since there's no way to test it it's kind of irrelevant.

working with a launcher, thats a kinda hard job to do lol

I agree

:lunar2024dragoninablanket: I want something like Gw2 achievements too people get so negative about this topic, a lot of mmo games have done this even RuneScape! Would be awesome if Gw2 had trading cards or steam emotes or just a classic gw2 background when completing those badge things rewards on steam would be neat! :VLOVEIT:

If I was gw2 worker thinking this it would have to follow the free gw2 gamebase and just go by the basics like completing the whole map achievement or fully finishing crafting levels.
