About the Ranger Profession
Hey guys, quick question: since the Rangers favours ranged weapons, shouldn't they also be able to use pistols and rifles? I mean, they're able to use Longbows, Short Bows and Harpoon Guns. I'd imagine them being extremely capable sniper if they do so.

Thieves fit that role. Especially with their elite spec Deadeye that makes them essentially snipers.

Rangers are generally shown with bows, but they get their name from the land-type definition of "range", not the projectile weapon classification.

They aren't really associated with mechanical/tech things. While it is called a "gun", speargun/ harpoon gun works like a crossbow.

Rangers are more defined as a pet class by the use of the permanent pet.
That said their Longbow was the most long range weapon in game until the release of the thieves Deadeye, quasi a sniper.

Rangers fit a nature theme in fantasy, and nature is usually opposed to technology and industry.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if they got access to them later, since I assume they will continue adding new weapons to each class once a year or two.

Rangers using ranged weapons is a misconception of what rangers are what about. Aragorn was a ranger in Lord of the Rings, and he used a sword.

And a bow occasionally, as well as daggers.
He's also quite proficient with a torch too :P

He also got stronger after dismissing his Horse.. so Aragon is totally a SoulBeast.

Rangers in the Guild Wars franchise have always been kinda like hunters that are attuned to nature and their pet. Their weaponry has always been kinda wood elf-ish and following the traditional hunter/ranger mmo roles of using bows and swords.

The harpoon gun works more like a giant crossbow than an actual gun as someone previously pointed out.
