Well you can't have a crosshair, but they added an option to give it either a small or large glow, either permanently or when you press a button, over two years ago. It's right at the top of the options menu, "Cursor Constrast". I use the "low" option myself, to help with the occasional times I have this issue.
update: wow, that cursor is really terrible. the developers put zero thought into that. they should be forced to play their own game. or high developers who enjoy making games.
I'm not sure how a crosshair would be any better or worse that the current pointer. I mean, I guess it was a bit larger than the regular cursor, but then again the in game glow setting kinda does that already. Or if the maybe gave us an option to change the color of the cursor.
Either way, sorry kinda went on a tangent, try the mouse setting and see if that might work, or check your mouses extra configuration software for any customization settings. :)
They put 0 effort into that mouse cursor, and it was completely misaligned, so that the tip of the cursor was the transparent top-left of the image, rather than, y'know, the tip of the cursor.
The visual diarrhoea makes keeping track of your cursor impossible. It's one of many, many, many, many-many, many MANY issues that have been there for 11 years and have either been ignored or half-arzedly "addressed" like this.
