Guild Wars 2

Guild Wars 2

What the hell happened to this patch?
Look, I know game dev ain't easy, but THIS is just beyond insane.

-New strike CM fight is bugged into impossibility, the timer/mechanics/damage sponge combo makes it absurd.
-Pretty much every new weapon is bugged, some in the most obvious and laughable ways (axe doesnt reset malice on deadeye, it would take literal 5 minutes of gameplay to notice it)
-New meta is also bugged, NPC just randomly gives everyone an L and stops in place.
-Story was impossible to finish without maxed up skyscale (thankfully its fixed by now)
-Bugged achievements

It's literally 1/4th of a DLC and devs had months to sort it out, maybe I wouldnt even complain if most of the bugs weren't so bloody obvious a 5yo kid could notice them just by playing the game for a bit. What happened to quality control?

laid off a little while ago.

But this is actually normal for gw2. It's why I always wait a week before bothering whatever new release was added. They don't test very well. Makes sense, they have no way to test connecting 50+ people into the same match run on a remote server and see if everything works.

It's been this way for years, and got much worse with the layoffs. The term "spaghetti code" gets thrown around as an excuse, but it'd actually be more humiliating for Anet if that were the case.

I have a feeling they have a duplicate code problem. It almost seems like each map functions as it's own contained program with it's own duplicate code. Which is how a jade bot can fly completely differently in different maps with different controls as if done by a different developer.

So whenever they fix something they break something totally unrelated because the same block of code was duplicated with slight changes in every map.

People were expecting a groundbreaking expansion or something? Even after EoD? Gyala Delves? SOTO? Game has been dead since 2021 and there is no turning back

ANet's signature move of incompetence. They love to update the updated update.

DEI happened. Current year devs are not the best or brightest. And unfortunately, the same competency crisis is affecting industries beyond gaming that are actually important.

Funny considering GW2's staff has prided itself on "diversity" since day 1 (despite the fact i'm sure they've never had any non-white members of staff). It's why every other character tells you they're gay, and then that's their one personality trait.
But yeah, sure, i'm sure it's this DEI stuff. Good one.

whooosh, lol

We told all the They/THEMS to learn to code and this is what you get.
There, happy now? :cozypoesad:

Kidding aside this is the state of the WHOLE frikken industry now!
So if you can point out another MMO with highly competent non-pronouned/toxic hair colored DEVS and a perfect Q&A department, we're all listening.

At least they eventually fix it, like they did today.

I don't know if that counts as an MMO, but Warframe team seems fairly competent, both in actual gamedev and PR.

Devs are learning to code. That means there is not enough time or talent left to send to the creative design and writing teams and it's painfuly obvious since they launched SoTo, lost a ton of players and stopped releasing their financial failures as detailed quarterly earning reports. Can't blame em

They don’t care. The game is in maintenance & low effort content mode, waiting for card swipes.

At this point it feels like one of those gofundme scams with fake sob stories laid out to maybe catch a few dollars of an unaware good soul once in a while.

I recently re-played the vanilla story on a new character and the disconnect-after-unskippable-cutscene bug (most prominent in Orr) is still in the game, posts about this bug can be traced back to as early as 2012, they never actually gone back to fix this in 10+ years, they rather tell people to fix their computers and connections, tells you everything what to expect from Arena Net.

The current interns who created this mess of SoTo was probably 10 years old in 2012. They cannot possibly fix any of the old bugs considering so many original devs have left years ago.

Even new players are starting to question the emptiness of the game including the ghost town LFG pages. They are met with the usual brainwashing "groups fill fast" even though the player said no groups even popped up no matter what time they logged on to the NA server.

They told them things such as "You blinked and missed it", "You weren't fast enough", "People are at work, sleep, holiday, hospital, airport etc. of course they can't play". Funny how that works only here but doesn't apply to bigger mmos that are full of players all day? Those excuses are falling flat, fast. 3-4k players on Steam gives you an idea how small the game is compared to games like FFXIV and ESO.

It's not a coincidence we don't see these cheap tricks in the likes of WoW, FFXIV, ESO or BDO because there is literally no need.

Stop trying to deceive new players, game is abandoned and barely anyone plays. If you feel bad you are stuck with SoTo for a year, having nothing to do in the game and months and months of content droughts, that's not something you should be dumping on a new player.
