Because it IS the complete DRAGON related saga bundle? It has all the 3 expansions and Living World seasons that go in between those stories, partly prologues etc expanding them into the FULL story arc that bundle truly is.
SotO started a NEW story, that is not anymore about the Dragon Saga, and thus not in the bundle. Also a very common practice for most games that the latest DLC comes in sale later (usually next year) in it's life cycle, usually when new content coming, or summer sale etc. :)
First time playing MMO games? :)
If they called it the Mega Urination Story Complete Collection, it'd still be dumb to stick up for sale as the complete story, when nobody know what that means.
Anet's always done this. Pretending "it's just dragon stories guys!!!" is dumb because A) no new player knows what that means, B) it's just a dumb name they've chosen for it, and C) they used to sell the expacs together as "complete" -- without any of the LW stuff. And even then, people would pop up to defend them pretending the LW stuff is distinctly different.
Great going guys.
It's not called the "complete story" it's called the Elder Dragon Saga complete collection.
Which is 100% accurately true.. it is the complete Elder Dragon story.. the complete main story of Gw2.
It even tells you what it includes right above the buy button.
Includes 3 items: Guild Wars 2:Heart of Thorns™ & Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire™ Expansions, Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons™ Expansion, Guild Wars 2 - Living World
Not only that but there's a big a** blue button that says bundle information on it.. right next to the buy button.
And clicking that gives you an even clearer description of exactly what you are buying with this collection.
ABOUT THIS BUNDLE
The Elder Dragon Saga—Complete Collection includes the Guild Wars 2 Base Game and the first three expansions: Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons, Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire, and Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns. You'll also receive 5 Living World seasons to continue with your journey between the expansions.
It's not Anet's fault if some people can't be bothered to read about what they're spending their money on.
Nor is it Anet's fault if people misread something and make the wrong conclusion about the product..
Just as it's not Anet's fault either if someone asks a question about their game on a public forum and some misinformed player gives them an incorrect answer.
It is named properly as exactly what it is, and what it contains.
And at the time of the bundles creation it was also in fact all of the available content, full story arc.
Now we have a new story arc (or start of it, if it does not end up being only a year long shorter stories, but some things possibly having continuation, expanding arcs overlapping with the next) going on, so would be weird to dump in a part of story that is going on and not finished even yet.
Once the current story arc finishes, i can see them making a new COMPLETE Edition Bundle, but no point doing that while current ongoing story/DLC is not even finished. So like it would not be.. complete. Eh? :D
You know, you can use logic with these things, right? :)
Of course a new player will have no clue what "dragon saga", "story arc", or whatever soylattetopia they came up with means.
When 95% of games in this world say "complete" or "ultimate", that's exactly what they mean. ALL content, except some cosmetic or pre-order junk.
Then again, maybe it's your fault for expecting any bit of critical honesty from people who've traded their brain cells for gems. 🤣
I can kind of agree with A) - C), but wouldn't subscribe to your general tone and attacks on the community. Easy way to fix this issue would be to drop the word "complete" which is the part of the name that causes the confusion.
Just because the name is technically correct and you can get all the information needed to not fall for it, it still could be done better.
Maybe a change of name would be fair, but the original bundle is still a whole 10 years' worth of content that can keep interested players having things to do for tens of thousands of hours. As much as I hate to be "that guy", Guild Wars 2 isn't like other MMO's where everything other than the most recent expansion is almost completely dead and irrelevant content.
This.
And literally, SotO is like comparable to unfinished expansion, since it will be 4 updates, out of what 2 updates are online as in REAL content so far.
So can compare SotO more to a book saga of 4 books, out of what only 2 books are written and published and out for reading as of right now.. a book author could not go and SELL now those 2 books that are out as a COMPLETE SAGA of 4 books when it is not a complete saga of 4 books, but 2 books.
Like i don't know how some people can argue against just common sense logic on this issue? Yes, changing name of bundle sure is a solution, but adding in a 2 out of 4 updates half finished content in a bundle named with a word COMPLETE would be silly. Can add in SotO when it is finished and then make a new Complete Edition.
That's how every sensible person running a business would do it, or a book author, or a movie director. One could not sell 1 movie as a "COMPLETE TRILOGY" for people to watch, if there is only 1 out of 3 movies even filmed yet. X)
As of right now:
- The newest WoW expansion is priced at 30€, but was still at 50€ not to long ago (i guess it changed around the time the next expansion was announced). But to their credit, you get it for free if you pre-purchase the next expansion (which wont come out for at least 8 months). It will be interesting to see tho if they lower the price once Dragonflight gets rolled into The War Within.
- Final Fantasy has the newest expansion still at the normal price of 35€.
- The only "exception" is ESO, which sits at around 13€. But that is only due to the sale, without the sale its at a standard price of 40€. And even you should realize how laughable it looks to compare sale-prices with non-sale-prices.
And that doesnt even factor in the "actual" price since you are required to pay a monthly subscription in both WoW and Final Fantasy, which in turn increases the ammount you have to pay in order to play by somewhere between 100€ and 160€ per year, depending on your payment interval.
So yeah, maybe i missed something, but i would really love to see how / where those "bigger, badder MMOs" are selling their stuff for "cheaper". Because 35€ and more just for the expansion and 100€ - 160€ per year just to play doesnt exactly seem "cheaper" than 25€, no matter how creative i try to get with my math.
Ok, who wants to bet on whether or not a "certain someone" will try to twist those words into some "ha, you just admitted they released an incomplete expansion" kind of deal, completely ignoring the fact how every other MMO expansion is also "incomplete" until their last patch?
This all, again. Thank you. Like it is so nice to have people with common sense and ability for math problem solving also.
I mean, these discussion forums (on many games, not just GW2) make one lose sort of faith in humanity occasionally, when you feel people are losing Int/Wis stats on their character sheet or something in increasing speed the last few years. Or feels that way. :P
I pay for FF14 for the current going year cycle: 12 x 12eur + 35eur (Dawntrail, next expansion, gotta pay for both expansion and sub fee each month) = 179eur
Meanwhile i am paying for current going year cycle of Guild wars 2 = 25eur
So FF14: 179 eur/year
Guild wars 2: 25 eur/year
AND i get free Gem Store stuff in GW2 by just playing and converting gold to gems, so also FREE cosmetics. IN FF14 i have to pay with real cash if i want something from the Square Enix store.
And same is with WoW.
And if we talk about ESO, can drop the word "big" away and use the word "bad" yes. Only decent thing it it's latest history was the Endless Archive, that is sort of Palace of the Dead type of content from FF14. With new floor with changing fights. So at least they did put something in the game that was not in it before. So one thing in the last 10 years. I'll give them that. :)
But ESO suffers from so many issues (performance being one of biggest) and one of most costly and disgusting cash stores (the prices there, 100eur houses etc, no joke) and cannot get stuff for free, except the "Seals of Endeavor" gimmick they use, that collecting them takes a year for something cool, they made it intentionally slow and useless, and at that point the thing you wanted is no longer even in the store, since they do all cool stuff in limited 4 days only offers lol. People calculated that it took over 10 months to get the mounts people wanted, and those mounts where there max times 4 days to 1 crate season, so 2 months, nice system lol. Not. In case has to explain sarcasm.)
So oh god am i happy to play GW2, we got things so good here with our monetization model. Hard to play other mmo games almost to be honest after gets used to this. :)
I don't mind if they do say that, since Anet said before the whole SotO even came, that it was gonna go like that, be in 4 updates. So a year long updating story/content. We just paid that 25eur for it.
Same as i pay in advance for that 144eur for my FF14 sub without having EVER a "finished product" in my hands, since MMO are never truly finished as long as they get content updates. :D
So you pay for content you like, i kinda see that whole 25eur for SotO almost as a "i subbed for a year to GW2 with 25eur, this is cheap compared to FF14 that costs me 144eur + 35eur for Dawntrail lmao) ^^
Anet was very honest about the model of SotO and how it will be in 4 update format. And i had that information available when made the decision to buy, and buy i did. And been happy about the content. And that is what matters. And hey - 2 more updates to get still, good value for 25eur. Especially waiting for those juicy new weapons for all classes. =) That is gonna be like endless content for a build enthusiast who likes to test every possible combo in both pve and wvw. ^^
