In the chat menu you can disable the chat bubbles.
For the toxic players, ignore them at first, when they start to insult, block and report them, when they go AFK, report them again.
Thank you! I just figured out how to do this. Now I can play in peace.
The entire chat panel can be disabled in General settings as well (under the Dynamic HUD section)
I will admit that I have not played any of the PVP modes very much (WvW more than PVP even), but with the little I have played, I saw about the amount of toxicity that I expected from a mode that only encourages competition first, teamwork second. Unfortunately PVP in any game is like this in some form.
That said, I am still sorry anyone has a bad experience, turning of chat stuff is always a good first move. :)
Second, and this may sound weird, but something I have always done, since to be fair, I only play it for the fun, not the competition, I immediately say i'm pretty new, so happy to take the Home node if no-one wants it...because no long term player want to take the home node, they want to run off and kill others...seems to calm things down a bit right away. Just my experience. :)
Now, I only do PvP when asked, or if I am really bored.
just mute them or block them and you dont have to stress over it :)
A little bit is fun, the back and forth, especially before a match starts, can be entertaining, and then from my experience, most times once the match starts, everyone gets their heads straight and we have fun. Sometimes, it gets really bad, but all games have that.
In fact, it'd be hard to find a more bot infested "big" mmo than GW2. It turned away so many new players as well, starting maps were full of bots. Imagine starting a new mmo and seeing bots everywhere on your first day.
Anet still hasn't done anything about it, and fanboys leap to their defene with "WELL IT DOESNT HURT ANYONE" and, my favourite, "that's just low intensity play!".
hahahahahahahahahahahha
You could literally auto-boot players for standing in one spot casting the same rotation for 12 hours. Or 6 hours. Or 2 hours. Hell, even 5 minutes.
There's no complexity to it. They're basic macros. Botters exploit and players exploit the simplicity of their bots: they trap them in cosmetic chairs cos the loot key is the same as the interact key, they pull vets and bosses to them and get them killed. I remember when Mallyx botters were all the rage all you had to do was Might buff them and they'd kill themselves.
Anet just literally could not care less. It has absolutely nothing to do with AI.
It's avoidable. It doesn't need tech or AI either, just needs a barrier to entry like a box price like ESO or subscription fee like WoW. f2p games cannot avoid the bot problem.
