And for your actual question I'd say it is a bit difficult to answer, since I do not know which poor state you are talking about, even though I did play EoD on its release ... All I can say is that I'm not aware of amy big bugs in EoD, just a few minor ones.
Content amoutn wise it is very similar to earlier expansions, so in this regard it certainly is worth it. SotO on the other hand, while cheaper due to having less content ... it still does have less content, and all of its content isn't even released yet, since they will release more, SotO content over the next few ... let's call them seasons.
For quality it's rather difficult to say since ... it is perceived rather subjective.I considered EoD as rather acceptable and SotO as quite fun (especially since the first 2 SotO maps were basically built for the Griffon to really display its strengths, and I love the griffon) and I liked nearly all of the new metas, which every map has one of. (except for the second half of the meta of the last EoD map, Gyala Delve, the one that got added way after the ED release, the same boring event 3 times in a row is just boring)
So yeah, in the end I can't possibly say if you will enjoy it. All I can say is that I really enjoy SotO.
So you stopped coz you didn't like eod or because your friends didn't like it and told ya it wasn't in good shape? sorry it's a bit confusing with your initial post and this one. I won't lie, EoD is kinda meh at the moment but there's always activity, people tend to exagerate and say bad things about content or some expansions, to each their own i suppose, proper, constructive critic is welcome but just a heads up, some people enjoy lying and exaggerating things to make this game look bad, anyways. SoTO is cool imo,
I'm a weird kind of mmo player, i care too much about the story, the lore, i enjoy talking to npc's and reading dialogues etc some other people skip all that and focus in online interactions with other players, events, activities, something that "keeps their attention" everyday mostly by doing raids or group content. that's truly important but if that's what you looking for wait for a better reply, i haven't played too much soto lately cuz im very busy with guild activities and friends so can't talk much about it.
considering in the title he asking if to buy both EoD and Soto he dont own both from what he said in the last post he basically heard his friends say EoD was bad and hence quit...
Agreed EoD wasnt a great expansion but i dont really think it was bad enough to make people quit the game xD people have different preference.
If people dont care about story or the EoD elite specs and Jade bot then imo Soto is a better buy than EoD. Me and Nico have already told you what you can expect from Soto its kinda personal interest if the content is worth or not.
So "content wise" we can list this:
End of Dragons introduces the following new maps including meta events: Seitung, Kaineng, Echovald, Jade Sea and Gyala Delves. The last one is the least popular. The jade sea had a low success rate at the beginning but was adjusted since then. Depending on how much you like the vibrant colors, the maps might look beautiful or horrible to you.
You also get four more strike missions including challenge modes. All of them are way above those of ice brood saga in quality. We actually had a world first race with the harvest temple strike CM that took several days before someone made it.
Story content was received mixed - some like it, some hate it, especially since it includes some LGBTQIA+ stuff. I figured I have not that high standards for MMORPG stories, so I am happy with it. It certainly is no FF14 level of story telling.
The masteries don't add anything substantial to the game, just some nice leisure activities, basically.
The new elite specs needed some balancing and they have made balance changes every 3 months since. Not every balance update was perfect, but with that cadence you at least now that stuff does get changed if it is too broken.
You also got new legendary weapons to work on as a long term goal.
Secrets of the Obscure brings two new maps and a third one that will be released in three parts - the first part being available right now, so in that regard it is smaller. All of them bringing meta events as well. The rift hunts and convergences however are a way more relevant mastery that also work in older content. They are a little bit like the bounty hunts of PoF. Weapon mastery opens up new build options, without actually introducing new elite specs. Two more strike missions including challenge modes so far. And new legendary armor to work on as long term goal - not fully obtainable just yet.
Story is not yet finished, but a whole new direction and stays largely independent from the stuff that happened since season 1 of the living world and brings a lot of lore information if you are interested in reading all that stuff up.
The wizards vault is a great replacement for the old dailies + log ins in my opinion, but you don't need to buy anything to benefit from that.
They also reintroduced living world season 1 since you left. This is a completely free update, so you have some content to play thorugh if you like to and never had a chance to experience that when it originally played out. This season 1 also includes yet another strike mission that is on par with the other new strike missions in my opinion: Not crazy difficult, but better quality than the older strike missions.
I personally prefered the vibe of End of Dragons, but SotO is no bad expansion, even though it definetelly is smaller.
So yeah, EOD seems to be a definite yes from me, even if it's only to revisit those old places like the Jade sea, and see how they fared since GW1 left them. so yeah... honestly, if i get a christmas bonus, i'll just go and buy all content i'm missing including all Living Story seasons that i am missing, and so on... would bring my cost up to about 100 bucks tho, or 65 and about 700 Gold at current gold-gem exchange xD
