Guild Wars 2

Guild Wars 2

Start over on Steam or Try and recover my old account?
Hi I bought the game like 4 years ago, I didnt get very far, maybe level 20. I had none of the expansions and I cant remember much. Is there any reason to try and figure what email I used and reset my password or just start fresh or steam?

Pros vs cons? Thanks

There's birthday rewards
You get those for your characters
So you will have 4 years worth of birthday gifts on each character

Is that the only benefit of trying to dig up my old account? I think Ill start over on steam if I decide to play again. Could really care less about birthday rewards tbh

Other than keeping the progress you made, can't think of anything else

There's benefits from not using steam though

I was only like level 20. What benefit from not using steam?

I am always forgetting my password and the email used as I only play like once a year.

Steam would captured my screen shots and log my time played, so if I ever changed pcs or reformatted all my pictures are saved in steam, 1 password to remember.

Maybe if I was a higher level it would bother me, but I think Ill start over for the sake of simplicity. Thanks for the help!

There's some other deals on the official launcher for expansions
Steam servers go down from time to time. GW2 will too when played on steam
I think there's worse customer service on things regarding payments
You now have to go through steam instead of GW2 customer service
And they most likely don't know anything about the game

You bought the game 4 years ago, when it was already free2play, but you don't have any of the expansions? That sounds a little bit weird to me.

Well, no matter what, I always would usually advise you to try to get your old account back. If you only forgot your password you can probably reset it with help of your e mail. But if you need to proof the support that it is really your account it might be a bit tricky to provide enough information to them, but still, it won't hurt to at least try.

Though if it really was a free2play account with basically no playtime it might as well be ok to just forget about it and make a new account. Just be aware of that with a Steam GW2 account your options to buy anything for GW2 are limited to using your Steam wallet for it. Any non Steam way of buying anything won't work.

Can still get core game, payed version
Amazon prime have also given away keys for it to subscribers etc

No I bought it like 4 month before it went free to play. And why would I buy the expansions before I beat the main campaign? That sounds foolish to me.

I was going to consider playing it again, and if I do Ill do it on steam now, so I can buy the dlcs and have it in one place. I just wanted to make sure there wasnt anything critical I would be missing if I did play on steam.

What is the difference from the free to play and the core version I paid for?

F2P version have restrictions

Probably main thing you get on payed version is access to trading post, more charcter slots, more bag slots, access to wizard vault (new daily system that replaced old login rewards)

Ah thanks. Also which is the 1st DLC I should go for if I am going to get into this? I am looking to load up for the holiday down time, and MMORPGS seem the way to pass time.

The steam version seems to be worse. Oddly frequent login errors, update problems.
Steam also seems to cost more for the same things. But that's hard to cover entirely in one post.
You can always add the original as a non steam game, or use the steam version with the provider portal option. I've done that for easier linux support.

Well, you said you bought it 4 years ago while GW2 became free2play 8 years ago, which is why I didn't expect you to have bought it before it became free2play, and 4 years ago it already was rather unlikely to 'accidentally' buy the core game since by then everyone would buy an expansion instead to get a full account.

If you decide to buy it on Steam then the Complete Edition for 100€ would probably be the best deal, since it contains all content prior to the newest expansion and once you bought any of the first 3 expansions you no longer can buy the complete edition and must instead buy the Living world seasons ingame for a total of 4160 gems, which costs roughly 52€, so more expensive than the 40€ it costs in the Complete Edition. Oh, on that notice, maybe your old account was active while some living world season 2 chapter got released (or 4 years ago probably more like season 5)

Or, if you don't care about story order or are willing to use gems instead, the HoT+PoF bundle is the best deal, since it offers 2 expansions for the price of one. and regarding Story Order, the living world seasons 2-5 are inbetween the core game and the first 3 expansions, the exact order is nicely visible in the story journal ingame. Season 1 is luckily part of the free base game.

Also, in general, if you want to buy anything, wait a week, since next week the Steam autumn sale should start which probably has a GW2 discount.

The game was advertised as being on sale. The only MMORPG I ever played was SWTOR, and I then bought GW2 but got busy with life.

Can I download the steam version then log into the launcher with my old details? I just did a password reset and got my old account back.
well my old account is atleast 6 years old, as there are 6 happy birthdays, 5 of which are not opened lol-and im level 30 not 20 lol
