Allow existing ArenaNet accounts to be used with the Steam version

Please implement a way to allow existing players to use ArenaNet log in on Steam like you can for the original Guild Wars! I'd definitely spend more on Guild Wars 2 if I could spend what's in my Steam Wallet, so that's a shame. Or at least add the ability to send gems between players so we have another way!

Also, this might cause some Steam players to accidentally lock themselves out of Hall of Monuments rewards from playing the original Guild Wars, wouldn't it? Or does playing the game through Steam create an ArenaNet account than can be linked with your Guild Wars account?

Although I'm sure ArenaNet doesn't want to lose ~30% of revenue from any existing players that would move to the Steam version, there is also revenue to be lost by not allowing existing players to pay how they want! Paying through Steam definitely opens up a lot of new payment options to players as well.

Who knows, maybe they will find a solution to this some day. I only fear they will get not so nice reviews on release if they don't find a solution to this.

Damn I am tempted to start playing this game again but right now during their anniversary thing they have 50% off promotion for standard and deluxe on their website, wonder if that will be the same case for Steams release.

Certain it will likely have crossplay. Will suck for existing players though, not worth the trade for ease on Steam over all your loot etc, then there is huge discount right now on their site so hard to say if that will be the same for Steam.

Sad but true.

i still have lots of gift card i haven't use since summer sale.
and my debit card was rejected due to fraud prevention issue(?lol) since april.
so i really wish i could dump all my 50$ giftcard on gw2.

Shame...No reason to return to Tyria now. The amount of achievements, explored area's and played episodes is just too much to start over with. Stunning game though, and I recommend it to anyone who never played it before. Just a shame you can't login with your old account.

They won't ever do that. Too much work and effort,they'd rather have players be stuck with their gemstore that is a pain to buy gems sometimes due to them not accepting a specific credit card when they feel like it.

This is probably the only game that doesn't want me to spend my money on it when I want to.

I really would like if I could link my account to steam though it would make a lot of things easier.

How about just open launcher after steam and don't close launcher after game starts?
So play time on steam will be counted.

I played gw2 almost 4k hours and now you just troll old users who love steam too
