Guild Wars 2

New Player, Need Advices
Hello everyone, I have just started playing GW2. I bought HoT, PoF and EoD DLCs. I boosted a character to 80. I wanted to know what path should I be doing right now ? What I am asking is not to learning mechanics or classes. I want to know what content should I be doing ? I am a little bit lost. I think there are dailies, raids and instances like in WoW and also open world events. How can I understand what types of events are there and which one should I be doing to improve my gear ?

You're so wrong, yet so confident. Amazing

Why do people think this is a good idea ? I'll never understand it.
Go level a character from scratch.

I know it is not the optimal way to learn a game but I don't have a lot of time for games right now. That's why I boosted. I also used to play WoW a lot, and when you boost a character in WoW, the game shows you the latest path you can take. You can't learn the mechanics and gameplay but can follow what other players are going. Maybe I am wrong for GW2..

Yeah, you stated the problem before you even asked your first question.
• I boosted a character to 80.
• I wanted to know what path should I be doing right now ?

My response is very long, but GW2 is a very complex game, so please indulge me.

Go back to character selection and make another character with which you explore and learn the game on.
Let me tell you that this is not your fault at all (well, maybe a little bit, but we are here to help), but the marketing suits who insisted on adding in the level-80-boost in the first place. We veterans always cringe when a new player opens with them using the 80 boost, because it ruins your new player experience.

When you start out with a new character, which you should do, follow the "character adventure guide", which you can find in the hero panel [H] → achievements [2nd to last tab] → "Character Adventure Guide". Also, when you get level-ups, click on every text box and read the pop-up. For example, the level-up dialogue for level 2 has text boxes "Hero Panel", "Stat Increases" and "Weapon Skill 2 Unlocked". When you click the "Hero Panel", a text box appears:
"You've just received a weapon. Your Hero panel displays items from your inventory that you can equip, as well as your character's stats. Open it by clicking the icon in the top left or by pressing the [H] key.".
Granted, most of these things will be trivial, but you might miss something trivial for a long time, if you disregard these.

If you enjoy story, I'd suggest you play through it from start to finish. The "Elder Dragon Saga" is really one big continuous story arch. If you read or watch Harry Potter for instance, you wouldn't skip books/films or jump to a later one "because it's the best of the series" (at least I hope you wouldn't), same here.
I recommend always doing the story as it comes up, so that the rewards you get from it stay relevant to your level.
The story modes of the eight dungeons in the base game's are intended to be played alongside the personal story, starting after the first mission on level 40. (don't postpone them until you are level 80). They tell the story of your mentor's old guild.
Also, the living world seasons are fully as important as the full expansions story-wise. The full expansions just brought more and bigger features.

Some idiot advice to avoid:
• "Get (flying) mounts first, the game is unplayable without them!" We only got mounts in 2017 and enjoyed the game a lot before then. By unlocking mounts first, you'll ruin your experience and feeling of progression in Heart of Thorns if anything.
• anything that puts your efficiency over your fun. The best content for you isn't what will yield you the most value/hr, but what will give you the most enjoyment.
• You need to play this or that profession/specialization/build. For open world and story everything is somewhat viable. It is important to experiment with a wide variety of trait and skill combinations to get a good handle on your profession and the game's mechanics.
• "You should get 100% map completion before anything else.". Only if you enjoy doing so. The in-game rewards for completing zones aren't worth it, if you don't enjoy doing it. The hearts are there to tell the story of a zone and its inhabitants. Vistas are there to showcase the game world and POIs are there to show you interesting locations that are often involved with some event. The real content is in the dynamic events anyways and you don't get a % completed rating for those anywhere. Don't think that you've seen all a zone has to offer, just because you get a blue wobbly chest for having "completed" it. Again, follow the character adventure guide and play in the zones that it asks you to alongside doing story.

Thanks a lot for the long post my friend. I will definetely try to learn the story and experience old content.

There, I found it.
"old content barely has any players in it" <= this blatantly false comment alone disqualifies your opinions

Note that I never wrote that you never need skyscale (which would be ridiculous), but that you shouldn't rush to get griffon or skyscale before playing at least the story up to the point where you'll naturally get them, so as to not ♥♥♥♥ up story consistency and ruining mastery progression.
Don't let yourself get pressured into feeling that you need to have flying mounts to be "viable".
You can always come back to HoT and S3 zones when you unlocked mounts in PoF and S4 and do achievements and whatnot.

i had to spam map chat many hours to find 3 other players for one of the older LWs.
to be fair, it turned out to be the worst mmo conternt i have ever tried.
it was the one, where they transform you into a ghost, and you have to do most of the dungeon solo anyway. not only didnt i play with my own character, i basically only
saw the other players at the start, and at the end. 0/10.

Just a heads up, don't listen to the amarr guy above. He doesn't play the game anymore and probably did it for few months and doesn't have the latest expansions yet tries to lecture people about things he doesn't know, own or play. Can't even describe the content or instance where he was transformed into ghost cuz "LWs" ??? makes no sense.

Just do the very 1st personal story chapters (zaithan campaing) and explore the central tyria maps, try dungeons, the slow go to fractals and in time you'll get to HoT content, thats the 1st expansion, just take it easy dont rush it and don't try to understand everything, have fun and explore.
What i did was getting PoF and HoT, Because i really liked the raptor i got at lvl 10, As soon as i hit 80 and did the Main story i decided that i wanted to play PoF, Realised i was kinda weak as a thief, So i went around the map and collected HP (Hero points) was hard to do by myself some of them atleast, So i waited for other people and asked in map for help. Eventually i got the Deadeye.
After that i bought some exotic berserker gear and started to understand my class.
I started going to events and doing world bosses and such, Realised its kinda boring to only have the raptor so first i did HoT story and then PoF fire, And after that i bought the living world chapter to get the Skyscale (The flying mount) and after that i started doing world completion.

I really wanted the skyscale because its like the best mount in the game for traversing the world. Scarab is great too, Both of them takes a while to get but is definitely worth it.

There is plenty to do in this game, You just need to find something to works towards. And learn the concept of masteries that are account shared.

Right now I am doing world content and following the latest expansion story. Game feels better than WoW. What I didn't understand yet are

1-) I got like 35-40 items until now and no one of them is better than my gear. With the boost, I got Exotic Celestial Hunter gear kit. Did some research and I found out that I can craft legendary items for my spec but mastering disciplines seems to time and material consuming :D
2-) Which Masteries should I focus on ? Not talking about the Elite specs, like to use Ley Loom lines, Updraft Generators etc. Are those useful ?
Well, I'm new and wherever I go, I always see at least 1 or 2 mentors helping people. I found 1 commander playing music with a group and that was fun to watch. A lot of veterans are around the "hard to get" hero points areas helping new players get their hero points. I honestly don't get the "no one plays this game anymore" and the "GL finding players that are willing to help" argument. It is darn obvious that people are still playing the game and that a lot of players are willing to help new comers.
Since op's here, why dont we ask op if he's finished at least one of the outpost chain events in VB, let alone kill one of the legendary bosses at night phase? 🤭

Anyway, to answer op's question abt mastery:
HoT: gliding and itzel lore
PoF: raptor maybe. Skyscale kinda renders other mount useless
EoD: jadebot

Correct, exotic lvl 80 gear is the second best gear, only ascended gear is better (and well, legendary too, but it's just as good as ascended, so it's only a huge QoL upgrade from ascended, and offers more unique skins, so it' sjust a long term goal, nothign you should worry about before having ascended gear)

There are many ways for getting Ascended Gear, crafting is one option, but you also can get a few pieces during every season of the Wizards Vault, or purchase it by doing many types of contents, like fractals gives cheap access to ascended rings, though not with all stat combinations. In general you should probably start thinking about your build, aka the stats combination on your gear, so you know which one to get on your ascended equipment. (Legendary gear allows it to change them for free, so for them you would have to worry less about it) since Celestial Gear is usually never used in any PvE builds, since it's just too wide spread, so you won't be great in any specific focus. Power dmg focused builds ususally focus on berserker stats, which are easy to get. Defensive stats are usually less relevant, since the game focuses more on avoiding incoming dmg rather than tanking it.

Pick whatever you want, or whatever the Story forces you to need for the next story mission. There is no real right or wrong, since you can get them all without too much effort, by just playing the game. But you probably first want to get the masteries that literaly block you out of some types of content, like being able to use updrafts, or those that offer huge QoL improvements, like auto loot.

Quality of life core Pact Commander mastery Advanced Logistics one that allows you to auto loot, legendary crafting should be more long term goal then short term, as it requires not only unlocking the points the mastery to get, a lot of raw materials, crafting mastery for weapon or armour, gifts of exploration, battle or what ever else is required time gated materials and gold.

As was posted above unlock gliding can be used in all maps except some story instances.
updraft is also good to have in HoT maps

Bouncing Mushrooms needed to reach some places and Itzel Language is needed to traded with Itzel merchant.

Nuhoch Wallows makes navigating Tangled depth's much more easier also needed to reach certain places.

You don't have to unlock the entire mastery chain all at once go for the most useful first.
