However, you don't get immediate access to the living world seasons, which are a big chunk of the game. Wish sort of makes all the steam deals a bad one. Only the complete package is actually good.
For now just play for free
There may be a much bigger sale coming up for the summer sale Steam always has, so I'd check back then.
There's no easy way to go about this. Buying separately will cost more in the long run, and the story will make little sense, world traversal will be harder because you won't have important mounts and masteries connected to those mounts.
Don't feel pressured into buying anything, the base game is free and offers enough to keep you going for now, but if you were to buy something I'd definitely choose HoT + PoF as you get both for the price of one, given that the package isn't on sale, you can just wait and play the base game, then potentially snag it or the whole lot during a bigger sale.
I hope this helps.

both hot and pof are super annoying. and the story gets hilariously bad.
be prepared for a lot of frustration .
The expansions are very different, in that the gameplay gets more involved than in core and the story gets more epic and fun.
and even after several nerfs, it is a nightmare to travel. it was obviously meant as a
a hardcore farming zone, but they ran out of money, so they couldnt make anything for normal players. they even let the tarir loot exploit continue over a year to get more players
to do it.
more involved? only to those who stayed. hot had over a million presales, so statistically there should be over 100k players there around the clock. that only happened the first few
days after launch. fanbois wiil tell you that its huge success, because you can always find some players there.
This. The game really ramps up in the expansions, in every way. The gameplay is far more engaging and so is the story.
It honestly makes the core game feel like a tutorial by comparison.
The lack of regional pricing is a big turn off. Looking at the price tag I'm getting Wildstar flashbacks, when I paid 80 EUR for the game and it disappeared in a couple years.
I do have the spare money to buy it, I'm just not sure it's actually going to be 100 EUR worth of fun, and that's not accounting for the QoL things, I assume, I'll have to buy from the shop, so the gameplay wouldn't be frustrating.
Even if all the expansions will go on sale that's still 40 EUR, for a game I'm not sure I'm going to like. Especially when people say that the expansions are very different to the core game.
Also what's the deal with the expansions why are people saying to get all expansions or nothing at all? Why buying the expansions one at a time is a bad deal?
I might give it a shot today we'll see. I wish it was using regional price man.
- You get gliding, and unlock the related mastery.
- You get elite specs. (a.k.a. elite version of the base classes)
- and other stuff you'll might need later.
Expansion 2: PoF
- You get PvE mounts, as well as unlock the masteries for each of those mounts.
- You get new elite specs.
- and other stuff
Expansion 3: EoD
- You only get Raptor and Skimmer PvE mounts. The masteries for those mounts are not unlocked, so you only get the basic version of each.
- You get the turtle mount. But you have to work on it.
- You get new elite specs.
- and other stuff
In other words, each expansion offers unique features. If you want those features, you'll have to buy the relevant expansion.
For example, there are elite specs from HoT and PoF that are better than the EoD elite specs. Or, to put it another way, there are elite specs from HoT and PoF that might be more fitting for your gamestyle, or easier for you, than the elite specs offered from EoD.
So, it's up to you. What do you really want to get from the expansions? Which features are your priority?
Is playing the mainline story important? Then buy HoT+PoF first.
Is there an elite spec you want from HoT or PoF? Then get the HoT+PoF expansions first.
Do you want to unlock the masteries for the mounts, same thing, get the HoT+PoF expansions first.
Or, are you fine with the basic mounts first? Then get EoD.
Or, are the EoD elite specs more than enough for you? Then get EoD.
Yeah thats a good idea, hec that's what i would do, i mean wait for sales, check the link i provided in a previous comment, in the mean time just go around and explore, do stuff everywhere, take it easy no need to rush or anything like that just be curious and try everything.
Back in the day i mean from 2012 to 2017 (date when PoF was launched and mounts introduced ) we had to walk everywhere xD sure, it was a bit annoying specially for people used to mounts in other mmorpgs but most of us didn't mind all the walking. Anyways wait for the sales and get the HoT & Pof bundle, you won't regret it.
