my friend please stop relying solely on steam metrics. GW2 released in august of 2012. the steam release happened august of 2022. that is an entire decade that the game has existed outside of steam, i promise you the steam metrics are not remotely reflective of the game's actual activity

There's no point sticking your head in the sand, being toxic, and screaming about the game being healthy despite this being by far the smallest of the big MMOs and shrinking by the day. Player estimations and the very clear numbers on Steam Charts show a continuing trend toward shrinking, they're just leaking players. If all the community does is behave in a toxic way rather than discussing why this ongoing lack of players is happening? It'll result in a dead game.
This is what happens in every game just before it dies. The WildStar community shut down any talk about what Carbine could be doing better, pushing for an increasing focus on a tiny hardcore minority. WildStar is now dead. Guild Wars 2 is distressingly following the same pattern as WildStar, almost note for note. And one thing to consider? The parent company of both: NCSoft. If NCSoft sees Guild Wars 2 as unprofitable, they're going to shut it down just like they did with WildStar.
Brushing this under the rug isn't going to help! Please stop doing that! We need to get ArenaNet to look at what's wrong and talk about it, and what they plan on doing to fix it. Otherwise they're only going to continue to lose players to other games!

@Brother Loden
I agree, 100 per cent! The launcher is in a sorry state. I created a thread talking about how bad the new player experience is due to the overall lack of maintenance resulting in a buggy experience for new players. That thread annoyingly disappeared, as the focus seems to be brushing this under the rug and just hoping that enough fools and their money can be parted before the game goes under.
Or, you know, they could try to actually salvage the game. GW2 has an incredible basis to build on, they just have to want to do that. I've heard they have a new game in the works though, so GW2 might just be their sacrificial lamb.
If that isn't the case, ArenaNet really needs to communicate. Something that they're incredibly bad at. I wish at the very least they'd just hire some more people to communicate on these issues.
Anet already put a roadmap for you to check, usually they delivered.

Nah steamchart population is far cry from the real active population but no, not 500k. Maybe 50k-80k active player.
Oh the irony.
They made outlandishly optimist statements before EoD launched as well and what did they deliver? Half of a meta map with no story since February 2022.
They straight up confessed they won't make full expansions or living world episodes anymore and there won't be new elite specs. Otherwise known as maintenance mode. But you will pay for a new map like Gyalva delves in the future.
50-80k is a very baseless claim since there is no metric to support such high numbers and in game empty population supports the more accurate 3k population on the steam.
Not to mention even that embarrassingly low 3k population contains old players who found a way to use their account with the steam launcher to falsely bolster the numbers in a desperate attempt and afk farming bots, raidsellers that are seen EVERYWHERE.
Source?
After every expansion they have big gap for new content. It's normal for GW2.
I'm sure Anet know their game best.
Meh, no new elite spec is totally fine. We already have like 27 elite spec now.
Even BDO have less classes than that.
Not baseless at all. Very little people know about discord server for GW2 world because not alot of the player base go to WvW and even if they do some of them don't use discord. Yet these servers have over 69k members in total and that only for EU worlds.
You need to verify that that you actually belong the world server via GW2 API to become verified member of these discord servers and each member need re-verify on each world relink? iinm. Either that or annually so that makes these numbers reliable and near up to date.
saying that the game has absolutely no troubles and is in a healthy state would indeed be incredibly misleading, i do not think many people disagree on that front. but to say the game is dead is equally misleading lmao. that is just standard Gamer(TM) tactic of "this online game that displeases me for any myriad of reasons is dead" and is meaningless chatter. but I think the game will most certainly still be around in a few years from now.
Maplestory is celebrating its 18th anniversary for the global servers right now, and people have been calling that game dead for over a decade. GW2 is fine.
Edit; to be clear, Nexon is absolutely incompetent with how they handle Maple and it's a miracle the game is still around, so like. Yeah I think GW2 is fine for a bit, if Maple and all its issues can still hang around
