Can I purchase items from the Gem Store through the Steam Client using payment methods other than the Steam Wallet?
In-game purchases can only be made with the Steam Wallet within the Steam client. Gem and game codes obtained outside of Steam cannot be redeemed by Steam users.

Even if you missed the thread, if you had checked ingame first before making your purchase, the redeem page directs you to a web page saying that steam accounts cannot redeem gem codes.

Please note: Gem card codes cannot be redeemed in-game (or on the site) for Guild Wars 2 accounts that were created on Steam.

This is not surprising, disappointing but not surprising. All this time after release and they still haven't found the time, commitment nor pride in their product to make the changes so gem cards can be redeemed through steam. Don't expect much from ANet, they're still grappling with Dx11 which was released before gw2 and the concept of "balancing" the classes.
Class balancing akak Make a Necromancer and just steam roll PVE and PVP content

Not you being so drunk on your haterade you can't even recognize this isn't solely an arenanet issue but most likely steam is at fault too.

i mean i blame BOTH sides Arenanet SHOULD allow steam users to redeem codes on their site from gem cards and steam shouldnt block players from using the gem shop like i couldnt even buy 1600 gems from the steam version because both sides just basically screw you over

Just say no to Steam API.

Why would this have anything to do with Steam?
Just like with all the closed "app markets", Steam takes a cut of all sales. It's like 30%.
ANet decided to separate Steam from non-Steam to retain that 30% from their existing playerbase. Makes sense.
But what they didn't bother to do is have support and ethical policies in place to stop people being screwed over. By separating things, people will inevitably end up in situations like this where they've bought things for the non-Steam version that won't activate on Steam.
Rather than refund people, they fob them off with copy-pasted support and keep their money.

It's an Anet problem. If you want to have your cake and eat it, you have to be prepared to be called out on it.

Anet shooting them self in the foot yet again? yeah yeah i said this already

Yeah well steam wants their cut of purchases made through their platform so all I can assume is that this is the deal they ended up making that resulted in purchases being separated between anet accounts and steam accounts. It's laughable anyone thinks this is just anet's decision and steam isn't at fault as well, like you really think steam had no say about a game on their platform that has some form of monetization and that anet just simply didn't want that extra $$$ lmao like please

What kind of white knight delusion are you living under?
Steam would accept external gem card purchases if Anet reimbursed them for their lost cut.
Obviously Anet won't do that. This is Anet's decision. Why on earth would Steam allow a F2P game with external purchases that can be activated on Steam? It's like saying it's Steam's fault HoT isn't free for everyone.

Um I used the gem store just fine. You just cannot use prepaid gem cards for the gem store. I just bought gems with my CC and bought all the living world content while it was on sale a few weeks ago. I use the Steam version, and had no issues.

Look at all them Steam and ANet CEOs knowing all the ins and outs of their businesses.
Zero McDol Mar 25, 2023 @ 3:20pm
Shouldn't using A-net as the provider fix all of that?

edit:
I make payments in game on my old account. I use Steam for nothing but a client to launch from.

This should be on the Steam page, not on the game website.
