Are the "skins" in the store flying mounts?

I want to purchase a flying mount but im not sure if the "skins" is a mount or just a skin. Even when I got the the "mounts" sections it still says skin. I'm talking about the one that costs 1,600.
I don't have the gryphon unlocked yet, just the raptor.

Also do flying mounts ever go on sale? Or are they 1,600 standard?

Skins are pure aesthetics, you do not get the mount with it.

It's just a skin. The store even says that it doesn't unlock the mount, just the skin.

In addition to the above, you can unlock a skin at any time, if you own the relevant expansion (EoD for Turtle, PoF for everything else, I think), even if you haven't yet unlocked the mount itself. Something to be mindful about when browsing the Store.

Items in the Gem Store do rotate, so if you choose not to spend Gems on a skin that you cannot yet use, rest assured that it will be back at some point in the future. Or maybe later you'll see something that you like even better.

The Gem Store only sells skins. Buying one won't unlock the mount itself. That you have to do by playing the relevant content.

I think you have to finish PoF to get the achievement quest. Which you will acquire 3 of the 5 PoF mounts by playing though as they are needed to get to new places on map. The Jackel mount isn't mandi tory, but it is rather needed to complete the griffon lines.

Yes, griffon isn't available until completing the Open Skies collection, which in turn requires completing PoF's story, and you will need the use of other mounts

Each mount in this game serves different purposes, you can't just go and get griffon straight away and ignore the other mounts.

(skins do periodically go on sale though, yes)

The Griffin is mostly easy, except for the 250 gold requirement.
It's the most fun mount though so worth it I think.

Buying gold doesn't give you any significant advantages. It can save a little time if your always short of gold though.

And most people when they reached this, already had the money.

I think that's called pay to suck.
You'll pay that, and have a total of 5% better stats than exotics that are bought with karma. 5%, that's made up for by doing your rotation just slightly better.

So sure, you can buy them, go ahead. You won't get any advantages though. You'll just have a really expensive weapon that ANET might obsolete in a balance update.

There's a reason we give DPS ranges.
Beginners will get 2000 dps.
Someone that knows how to play will get 7000 dps.
Pros following a meta build will get 35,000+ DPS.
All 3 use the same equipment rarity.

"Pay to progress faster" or "pay to skip the grind" is not the same thing as "pay to win". Even if it were, gear rarity doesn't matter in PvP, so who exactly would you be "winning" against?
