Wish you all the fun.
If it was the correct thing for you and you feel happy with your experience, there is no harm done and you might be a fast learner. There are probably a bunch of people like you who do not easily get overwhelmed, but in my experience it is more on the common side for people needing the time until lv 80 to adjust.
Nothing wrong with your post, outside of painting a picture of vets trying to scare new players. OR maybe it's the case of text not conveying emotions well and you sound worse than you meant to.
Alot of fun to you, still !
You also act as if people say to not use the boost at all, which has never been true; the advice is always to not use the boost on your first character, and save the boost for a second character. That way you gradually get used to the game on your first character, and don't have to go through the entire levelling process to get a second character going.
but boost or no there will always be leeches contributing no CC and whatever damage 1-1-1-1 will get them
The worst thing you can do in GW2, because of its fairly open concept approach to player goals/activities, is take the average MMO player(or even general player) and toss them in the deep end. Builds, gearing, access to content, etc.
Its very easy for someone to get blasted with all that, get confused, get frustrated and think "there are other games I could be playing right now".
The leveling process is a fairly decent way to ease people in to some of the basic systems. Its also worth pointing out that on a first character, you dont really get much for doing the boost.
I wont go as far as saying you cheat yourself out of an experience as everything you could have done can still be done but when leveling alts, you may find you want that boost back.
TLDR: Iv used two boosts. There is nothing wrong with them. But it is good practice to advise people to pace themselves and try to go the natural path while its still fresh. Saved the short cuts for when the road gets less inviting.
You wrote that very nicely, which is why it reminds me to say to OP and maybe other new players:
Don't give in to the "FOMO".
Gw2 is casual friendly in the way that you can just take a break for a year and continue where you left off. You don't need to catch up. Everything will happen while you have fun. The worst you can do is stress yourself to get where other players are.
Iv had this issue with games before(often quite validly I might add) and I was literally talking to a friend about this the other day. They were struggling a bit after coming from BDO and worried about how much they would have to commit to catch/keep-up in 'another mmo'.
Until 71 you don't even unlock your last spec slot. Until like level 10 you don't even have your basic 1-5 attack skills. Until 31 you don't have your utility slots.
The 1-80 experience was bad 10 years ago, and is atrocious now. Use your 80 boost and go find something fun to do.
core game sold over 5 mio . how many bought the expansions?
opinions and taste is one thing, numbers and facts is another
without the core game to lure new players in, this game would had folded long ago
hot had over million players ready at launch, if it was successful, then there should be over 100k players there at all times.
Also, Warrior is one of the most faceroll classes in the game. You don't need to know much, if you try boosting to 80 instantly and going for something more complex like a weaver elementalist, chances are you're going to be very overwhelmed trying to figure out your rotation, meanwhile getting slaughtered in a few hits
It was my 12th alt.
Now while leveling a key mule as Revenant, I'm starting to warm up to the class.
