A question about crafting.
I have recently returned to the game after a long break. I am enjoying myself very much so far, and would like to introduce my husband to it, so that we could play together.

My husband has a rare form of colourblindness called "monochrome vision". There are no colourblind options in the game currently. Does that mean he wouldn't be able to engage in crafting? Or are there third-party addons we could use? Is crafting important for anything in the game (such as earning gold, or getting high-level items early)? I've never tried making a non-crafting character before, so I have no idea.

I must admit that I don't quite understod why colorblindness would be a problem for crafting. While rarities are color coded, they are also written down in the tooltips (for equipment) of the items and I think I don't even look at the colors when I usually craft anything. All you do with craftign is select an item and click on craft and wait a bit and you're done, so colorblindness should be no problem, I think .....

Also, crafting is not super important. It can be used to get ascended or legendary euqipment, but legendary is too expensive to think about it for a long time and ascended gear can also be obtained elswhere. And there are a few other small things, but nothing too important. I guess some craft that can only be done once per day could be used to make some money, but it's not that much.

I'm not sure if we are talking about the same crafting here. I'm talking about the things you make at crafting stations in cities.

The crafting interface gives you a list of recipes you can craft. Items at your current level are shown in orange, but as you level up, the colours change to yellow, green, blue, white and finally, grey for items that have stopped granting crafting XP.

Also, there is a discovery mechanic, which gives you an XP bonus when it happens. The items that can be combined to discover something look normal, but those that Can't be combined have a red overlay.

As my husband can't see any colours at all, he wouldn't be able to tell the difference between colours.

It will be tricky. Red will appear grey, but thats ok, you don't want grey.
White is good, and he can see white. So if he follows a crafting guide, it will be no problem, all guides show by level, not colour code.

I would be more concerned about the AoE circles. Even the game sometimes messes up if green is good and red is bad or not. Sometimes white is good and blue is bad? Your green target circle overtop of the big blue hit zone and the one green spot you are supposed to stand to not die instantly.

I have another idea - if we make characters of the same race and class, I could level up crafting on my character. If I ever craft anything worth equipping, he could just buy the item of that name on the Trading Post instead.

I have watched a crafting guide on YouTube, which says it might actually be Cheaper to buy a crafted item then to make it yourself! Can anyone confirm that please?

Oh, right, forgot about the leveling phase. I guess one way to avoid any issues i susing a leveling guide, since that would also minimize the resources needed to level up.

Other than that ... I think the top items of a category are usually the highest level items out of the category? And I would assume that it should be possible to at least notice some difference in colors, but maybe not enough?

Well, like I said, you mostly use crafting for ascended or legendary gear. Ascended is always account bound, so can't be bought from others, and legendary is super expensive. With that I directly meant that you won't be crafting your exotic gear that you want once you reach lvl 80 simply since buying is much easier and cheaper.

You can use reshade and monochrome the game or variations of it.

True. You can check https://gw2efficiency.com/crafting/calculator if the item is worth crafting or better just buy from TP.

You can also add your GW2 API keys and check if you have the required materials or not. It's a really useful website for GW2 players, I suggest you bookmark it and explore some of the features.

If I remember correctly you can also use filters to only list items that grant experience. Pay attention to the cog wheel. This might help with the leveling as well.
But even without colorblindness, a leveling guide for the crafting is recommended so you don't waste too much money on it.
