Level 80 Grind is Horrible, Should I Waste My One Level 80 Skip on my Level 47 character?
My friend keeps telling me to before I burn out. But I feel like it is a waste to do that on a character I already have at level 47 instead of a level 1 class that I might wanna try out down the road. What do you guys suggest?

What’s horrible about getting to level 80?

How are you grinding? Exploring, doing hearts, helping with group events? Or just killing every monster you come across?

Are you enjoying the class you’re playing? Do you like the mechanics? Maybe a different class would be more your speed.

For example, when I first started I played a Guardian because I liked the Paladin-esque aesthetic, made it to 80, but burned out because I never felt like I was contributing. I took a break for a while (like several years) and decided to try a Necro when I came back and I’ve never looked back.

If you like the class maybe you need a change of pace, try pvp. In straight up pvp level matters far less than in pve.

Maybe try WvW. I don’t care much for it but I know lots of people who enjoy it.
Can't say I ever felt anything vaguely resembling "grind" leveling a character. Just go around exploring the map, participate in the odd event you happen across, and maybe do a few things from your Character Adventure Guide that are displaying in the top-right if you really want to speed through levels.

I'm leveling by going around the map with a friend doing hearts, events, and world exploration. We've 100% cleared four zones now. But we are both getting kinda burnt out, and it doesn't help when we get to some of the more gimky hearts that take us a bit to figure out how to complete.

I am the Elementalist class, and I find it to be pretty fun. I have a bunch of different hotbars of skills for each element, and swap weapons for more. I have weapons I can summon for even more variation. The class isn't the issue, the grind is.

As for PvP, I don't wanna get into that until I am in the late game and understand everything. I feel like jumping in to a PvP thing with a bunch of skills and mastery stuff I haven't ever seen before would be a lot.

There is an achievement group called Adventure Guide. It is displayed on the right edge of the screen and if you click on it, it opens the corresponding Achievement tab. The Adventure Guide has several Volumes, and its sole function is to give you XP. And lots of it. It was implemented recently exactly for people who want to level up fast.

Story missions, especially the early ones, are very easy, very fast, and give XP scaled to your actual level. That's a lot of XP, too.

If you happen to have an Experience Booster lying around, use that too. With one active, simply running around a map unlocking Waypoints and Points of Interest can get you really far, even to 80.

Levelling in this game is really fast, especially since literally everything throws XP at you. That is why you shouldn't stick to doing the same thing over and over again. I don't like grinding, either, so I tend to mix it up.

If you're having to grind out levels to hit 80 then you've definitely missed something. Always do your personal story and whatever you have open in your adventure guide, these two things will generally give you more xp than any other content.

I hate to say this, but even when you are lvl80, XP grinding still exists. You will have Masteries to complete which require earning the appropriate amount of Mastery Points to purchase it and a lot of XP to unlock it for purchasing. Many Masteries requiring up to 1 million, and some at 4 million XP.

However, that said you can still get that amount within a couple of hours easily. Maps with chain events give out lots of XP quickly and using XP boosters help increase it further.

You guys are too focused on hitting level 80 as fast as possible.

You don't need to 100% each zone. Do what seems interesting and move on.

Crafting equipment or food gives leveling exp.

Hit up the World Bosses when they pop for around your level or lower:

Focus on learning your class and not getting hit. Higher level areas have more interesting enemies but the expansion zones will kill you if you aren't good with dodging.

If THAT tiny bit of grind stresses you already, then you're not really GW2 material.
Back to Fortnite it is, have fun.

Darn okay. Guess I'll follow your suggestion and work on getting the new Doomguy skin in Fortnite. Thanks for your answers everyone else, but this extraordinary wise guy dictates my life so it looks like I am quitting GW2 immediately.

As others have suggested: Mix things up. If all the maps you were doing starting to look to similar, try hoping to another starter region.
Even though the original dungeons are basically abandoned content, they are still something different from your usual experience and usually should bring you up by one level. If you have someone who knows the dungeon, you usually don't even need a full group to beat it.
Also, there will be a change of pace in your personal story pretty soon. The story in the base game isn't as good as later on in the expansions and living world, but - as a first experience - the level 50 and 60 story is definetely a step up from what you have done until then.

It's odd reading this because I've always felt the complete opposite about leveling in GW2 - that is to say, in other MMOs i've played, it's been "ugh, i HAVE to finish this quest chain" or "i HAVE to do this dungeon", but in GW2, it gives you almost infinite freedom in how you want to level. Nearly everything is optional.

I think the comment about playing a class you enjoy is important, but like you said, you seem to really enjoy Ele. It's still worth noting that trying other classes really can give you that refreshing feeling of "smooth" gameplay, it's different for everyone. I -thought- I loved Guardian when I first started playing, but it turns out I was meant to play Revenant all along. Never looked back.

Another important note is that you should ENJOY the areas you're 100%ing. Yes, it may be mandatory much further down the line (endgame legendary weapon crafting for example) but please keep in mind, these are not meant to be rushed. If you're only still leveling, and you don't like the area you're in, try another one. There's a pretty good variety of level-appropriate zones for any level range. Hell, I even went back and did some of Queensdale when I got (extremely) burnt out in Mount Maelstrom.

There will always be a class you love, but a class that you love more. There will always be a zone that you hate, but a zone that you hate even more. As well as zones that you absolutely adore (for me, Queensdale).

I highly encourage you to take advantage of the vast freedom that GW2 offers, and just explore. If you're not having fun, what's the point?

i got the game about 2 weeks ago im already lvl 80 in a week tbh it wasnt a grind and i enjoyed the story that comes with leveling up.
LSD Feb 24, 2023 @ 2:13pm
1-80 is notoriously bad. Join dungeons for easy xp (2 levels per 10-15m run -- one decent player will happily carry a team of noobs).

100%-ing a map is a grind. Don't be lured into doing them. Hearts are a hallmark "reinvent the wheel and make it square while we're at it" part of the dev's philosophy. Avoid them. Try doing world bosses instead. There aren't a whole lot of them at 47, but check the wiki for world boss timers, check they're your level, and go nuts. You'll get the exploration xp from getting there, plus the decent xp from each event. And they tend to be fun.

I've thought about starting over as a new class just to try something out (I have tried a few and failed to get into them in the multiple times I have tried and failed to get into GW2 in the past few years). What is stopping me is that I don't wanna reset my progress. I'd never reach level 80 if I kept restarting.
C4RNIVOR3 Feb 24, 2023 @ 11:25pm
you can enter the pvp lobby at lv2, so with that in mind you might try picking up a class that seems interesting, and testing the playstyle in the combat training area there, as you will have access to all of your skills. if it doesn't vibe for you, then you can delete the character and try something else without losing any character progression
