I can't buy in game gems
I don' know if this is an oversight or not, but surely I can't be the only one here unable to purchase gems from the store?
When I click to buy gems It just sits there with it's little loading wheel spinning around doing absolutely nothing at all.
I can't buy gems from their website, because it categorically states that steam players have to use their steam wallet to buy gems in game, which as I just said is completely impossible.
I want to buy a couple of outfits that I really like. I know i've been told not to rush when leveling, but I am used to a linear leveling system, where the game points you in the next direction or whatever.
I have 2 in game boosts from the expansions I bought, and to be honest I tried some of the classes out and they where beyond me lol

any ideas on what arena net are doing to fix this massive over sight?

EDIT: I was finally able to buy some gems, the steam interface decided it would show up and allow me to purchase what I wanted to buy.
I know this thread got a little spicy, and that was definitely not my intention for that to happen.
For some unknown reason my steam overlay was not appearing when I attempted to buy gems. It was on because the box was checked when you right click the game inside steam. It was very frustrating but now I finally have what I wanted, I'd like to thank each of you for taking time to make a comment. again thank you.

Disclaimer - i didnt read every post because i think i have the answer

I bought some Gems yesterday
I had to first put money into Steam Wallet, then i could just buy the Gems from ingame
It worked fine
Only complaint is i will have have "left-over" money in Steam Wallet, but thats Steams issue not ANet

If this was already answered and it triggers you, re-read my Disclaimer

EDIT - Btw i have my overlay on, didnt affect my transaction
OP had overlay on, so it was a issue on Steam's side not loading the page properly. Or at all in OP's case.

That could be a loading error on Steam's side. Steam just did an update, so keep trying.
Hi, thanks, I've been trying for the last few weeks since i started playing. I even contacted arena net explaining he problem, and they said it was a steam problem. I have my overlay active.

Disappointing, not surprising, disappointing that ANet doesn't have the passion nor the pride to have someone look into it to a) make sure it isn't on ANet's side; b) to be able to actually help a player resolve the problem; and c) take measures to make sure it doesn't happen again. Whether they realize it or not, something like this reflects on ANet, not steam. Then again they didn't show pride nor commitment to the game when they introduced it to steam, a year past their forecasted release date. Couldn't even do simple steam achievements like first time in WvW, first time in sPvP, reached level 10, 20, 30 -> 80, map completion. Unfortunately one has to maintain a low expectation from ANet.
Have you talked to steam help? If you did everything they suggest, you're stuck between a rock and a hard place. ANet isn't known for their foresight nor intelligence.

Steam is known to have issues when it comes to buying things in games that have their own launcher. It's why people suggest you ALWAYS pick a non-steam option for games with Subscriptions or Microtransactions.

Most notorious is trying to get a subscription to Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Not quite sure what you expect ANet to do on a Steam issue. Send some developers over on a house call?

I would guess you would have learned by now since the last time someone had that same issue, you started spewing your ♥♥♥♥ again only to be able to read the actual solution moments later and proceed to delete your comment. You never learn, do you? Once a troll, always a troll I guess.

Take your clown though, got plenty of points to share some with you.

@OP, you need to have the steam overlay running as the payment goes through Steam.

It is in Anet's interest to put pressure on steam to solve this problem. In this case it is only an ingame gem exchange, the next time maybe a real money purchase that doesn't work. You as a small player are irrelevant for Steam, if Anet puts pressure on it, Steam takes it more seriously (translated).

It's a KNOWN Steam issue, yet it's still somehow ANet's fault for not doing enough.

It has nothing to do with either party. It has to do with the users unless you want Steam to force the overlay on everyone. Payments that use the Steam wallet go through Steam. In order to pay through Steam, you need to have the overlay running. Without it, what is it supposed to load? Should it be knocking the game on the background in order to pull up the client or your browser?

It's still a steams/Anet thing, because the player has to know that first. There are certainly enough players who only have experience with games that are solo Steam and maybe it runs without further things on the part of the player. But if a situation occurs like in GW2 and other games, you stand there clueless because you can't do it anymore. Basically, it's Anet's business as well, because they came to steam, so just to be safe, they should also let the players know how it's done. And if Anet only saves ticket/mail work. The Anet answer according to the motto "We are not responsible." sounds like 0815 authorities wrangling over jurisdiction. And as written, this time it was just the topic, the next time with another user something with real money. (translated)

OP already stated he had his overlay active:

It's a known Steam issue. Stop trying to blame ANet for everything.

I find it funny that my comment was completely ignored. Right when OP made the post, Steam had an update. So, it could have been a loading error. Harmless and it happens.

Once again, your inability to read. IS THAT CLEARER?

Again. STEAM issue. The only thing ANet can do is... tell you it's a Steam issue. They don't control Steam. They can't do anything about it because... it's a Steam issue. They can't fix anything because it is tied to your Steam account, which they do not have access to. What part of this is confusing you?

Origineel geplaatst door armyguy:
He has a point. ANet should know what's going on. You would expect that of any other service.

You are right. They told him it was a Steam issue. Let me quote the OP:

Guess what? When other games have this problem, they tell you to... wait for it... contact Steam because it's... uh... a Steam issue.
@op
Try closing steam and running it as admin. I have had similar problems in other games and this can sometimes fix this issue.

Hope this helps.
