GW2 steam account, how does it work???
What's the difference between old accounts and a steam account??

What happens when you download gw2 client with steam?? do we get a "launcher" where you can type account info n such? do we get redirected to anet account creation site?

My main account was made in Guild Wars 2 website, there you can sign for news, offers, link with twitch and some other stuff, also enable 2 factor authenticator, phone number, etc, your products (what you have purchased in the past) and participate in the gw2 official forums.

When you create an account in the official gw2 website you need a display name, give email etc then you download the client, install and finally you get the anet gw2 launcher to login and play.

It's the same here? i'm going to be able to chose email for this steam account and display name? do we have a special gw2 steam launcher??

If not then how the heck does steam pick your display name?? don't tell me it chooses your steam account name... imagine having a steam account like "smellystinkyfeet89" then soon as you login for the 1st time in gw2, your display name would be "smellystinkyfeet" or "ilovebumsxoxo" :steamfacepalm:

Display name can be changed every 90 days by logging into your gw2 account in anet gw2 site... so you need an account to do that.

Anyways i just want a 2nd gw2 account coz i got enough credit in steam wallet and the Autumn sales.

If you want to use your Anet Account with Steam u need to right click gw2 go to properties and under launch options you type in -Provider Portal this will allow you to type in your Anet credentials when you Lunch the game. But keep in mind you can't use Steam Wallet Balance to buy Ingame Items for the Anet Account. If you want to use Steam Balance you need to use the Steam Account

Launching thru Steam will create new account. You won't be typing anything.

To further clarify the OP's question, players with Steam accounts have their display name, independent from your SteamID, I don't exactly remember how you enter it the first time but I think it was in-game, first launch, just before selecting your server. We are also able to change it. Main difference here is that we log in with Anet through steam, and not through email + password.
The big restriction for Steam users, that many people have a problem with, is that you can only buy Gems in the in-game store through Steam, no other payment methods (Wich could be cheper/more convenient) are allowed for us.

On top of that, there are none of the usual steam goodies like achivements, trading cards and all that. Some people care about all that, don't ask me why.

Ok but where's all that "new account" info? what if i want to link my gw2 steam account with twitch for special drops, events, loot etc?? i will need that "new account" data.

And again what kind of "display name" you get when you play the steam version? is it your steam account name?

You can log in to your gw2 account with Steam on arena net website. There you can connect your account with twitch.
Display name you will type yourself, when you create characters.

So GW2 steam account is going to use same e-mail as steam? Do you know if you can change it?

No real difference, except with ArenaNET accounts you have to put in a email address and a password, wherein you are launched into the game. STEAM as you know logs you in via your STEAM login details. If you wish to add Guild Wars (one) to your account, you will need to know the name of at least one character, and the login process is exactly the same as with the STEAM client. This name allows for account verification.

As for the account name, the signup process goes like this: PUBLIC DISPLAY NAME: (this is the account name) and the game logs in via STEAM. And that's it! Whatever name you selected, unless it is already taken, is used and a four-digit code is added to it. For example, mine is Belenus.9132 - and I choose that name, but the number was all ArenaNET.
