Question about coop
If we want to play different races, we start in different zones right? Is it easy to all get to the same starting zone, like you can do in WoW?

Yes, the first Waypoint of each starter zone is unlocked automatically. So you can jump around to your friends after the first tutorial event

Hey! After you create a character you get free Waypoints (teleportation points, basically) in every starting zone. So yes, you can easily play together with a friend

Yes, you can immediately teleport to any racial starting zone!

yes! it is extremely easy to get to other racial zones! there are portals in each main city
Sleepy Aug 23, 2022 @ 11:36am
all starter zones from when you first enter game have 1 teleport already unlocked so you can find your friends with some ease

You are correct that each race has a race-specific starting area. However, once you go through a short intro/tutorial and gain access top the larger map, you'll also have access to a fast-travel waypoint in each of the starting areas, so can port over to join your friends if they started with a different race

In principle yes, but teleports also cost ingame currency, which means you first have to see how much you have to save in order to be able to do the teleport.

Important if you want to play together! As far as I know, you have to take the same home world, otherwise it won't work. If you take different worlds you can be in the same place and still not see each other. The starting world is selected from a list when creating the first character, which also shows the number of existing players and the language.

If you have taken different worlds, you can only change that by changing worlds, which as far as I know is subject to a fee, or temporarily by joining a group from another world. (translated)

Don't worry too much about the price tag for waypoints. They scale with character level. They start at negligibly cheap and end at really cheap.

So long as you and your friends are on the same server (NA or EU) it doesn't matter which World you chose on that server. Everyone on the NA servers can play together. Everyone on the EU servers can play together.

Your choice of World effects the side you're on in the large scale PVP maps known as World vs World (WVW) where three armies, made up of different worlds, fight it out for map dominance. However,, ArenaNet are currently looking to overhall that system as well.

As far as I am aware, GW2 has been using a "Megaserver" concept where anyone from any world can play with anyone else; if you end up in separate instances, you can still form a party and one can join the other person's map instance. That is/was at least true last time I played the non-Steam version, but I am fairly certain it still holds up for this.

The only exception is the multiplayer PVP thing GW2 has, called WVW, which is short for "world versus world" where servers/worlds compete with one another and you cannot really coop play very well. This is entirely separate from regular PVP and all open world content, though, so not too much to worry.

I know, but you still have to earn it in the beginning. (translated)

It didn't work for me and my friend and he will certainly have chosen an EU server. In the end, one thing you should keep in mind, especially if you want to play with friends who don't come from the same region. (translated)

Was PvE. He started out as a sylvari and as a charr, when we were actually standing next to each other, neither could see the other. (translated)

That's not due to choosing a different server, you're just in a different instance of the map. Invite the other player to a party, then right-click their portrait to join their instance.

I understand the home as instances, or when I enter an area separated from the map, as in the story marked with a green dot. Also if I can see every other player on the map why not him.

I also know about the group invitation now, but it's a few years too late for that. We were friends, I don't know if friends are marked on the map when they are on the same one, or online and in game at all. I couldn't see him, nowhere on the map (under M). I can see guild players there.

Besides, it would be nice if you explained what you mean in more detail, so that we don't have to guess what you mean. (translated)

Usually with you're both in each other friendlist the game tries to pair you on the same instance of a map. If that doesn't happen (because there are too much people), you can try grouping and when you right lick on you're friend in the party you can teleport to the same instance.

About instances. The game is using megaservers. That means there are not specific servers. Depending on how many people are playing, the game will create instances of a map on the fly, and remove them when there are less players. It's all done seamlessly, so you never see it (except when the game tell you're it's going to move you to another instance becasue the one you're in is empty and is going to close).
So if you're on a map that is full and a friend come to the same map, he will most likely go on a newly created instance of that map. So you won't see each other.
That is resolved when you group together, the will always try its best to have member of the same party in the same instance.
