Mesmer + Heal?
I'm interested in the Mesmer class but also in playing a Healer. Is Mesmer as Healer possible and viable?

Unfortunately I don't think there are any particularly strong healer builds for Mesmer. Mesmer is primarily a DPS profession with a lot of potential for boon support.

Okay, thank you.

Mesmers currently do not have a way to be a dedicated healer. They can be dps or they can be support by giving buffs. Mesmer also comes with a lot of useful tools for tackling encounters.

This could possibly change in the future, as there used to be some very niche Chronomancer builds that could do some heals. But strangely I think Mesmer is the only profession without at least a semi-viable healing specialization.

Only mesmer and warrior are the two classes without a dedicated healing elite spec unfortunately.

Heal Shout Quickness Bladesworn is actually a possibility. Only downside is it doesn't have any way to provide the Protection boon. So if other players can provide Protection, Healsworn is totally an option for a Quickness healer.

Though you could try Specter (thief) instead, no illusions but blinks around.

It also has portals like a Mesmer.

I technically made Alac mirage healer for the memes, it can work for more casual encounters, BUT it's biggest issue is lack of sustained healing from any weapon skills.
So if damage on the group is consistent ur screwed,
You're just gonna run out of healing mantras, and passive healing is just from clones.

It depends on how you approach it, Chronomancer can indeed heal but their healing is very, very limited. If you have a highly experienced group that doesn't require intense healing or you are fighting something that doesn't require constant healing, you would be fine as a support Chronomancer, providing little heals here and there.

If you're expecting a traditional dungeon system where a healer is needed at all times during leveling you will have to adjust that expectation. A Mesmer can heal itself enough to stay alive to max level. Plus a Mesmer with a greatsword is a lot of fun, I wouldn't count the class out just yet.

When GW2 was launched, they tried to move away from the holy trinity. In the end they kinda went bak to it with elite specialisations, but it is still a bit different from what you may be used to, especially "healing". Don't underestimate the importance of providing boons (aka buffs in other games) though. They are actually really strong and you want to have their stacks maxed for as long as possible for group content. They are also short lived, so you it is an actual task refreshing them. So a DPS with decent boon support is maybe a playstyle that is still enjoyable for you.
Until I started GW2 I also was a healer in most other MMOs, but I got sick of basically just playing with the GUI (the health bars of my allies). At that time it was sometimes so bad that I could'nt even describe you how the dungeon / raid actually looked like.
