You do not need to pay real money for the living world episodes because like EVERYTHING else in this game except the three expansion packs, they can be earned ingame. Your "omg you need 100 bucks" crap is nothing else than trashtalking, and like the name says, "convenience stuff" is just that - convenience. You can buy it whenever you have collected enough gold ingame if you feel you want it enough.
You don't NEED any of it, especially not when starting out. To just take the example of the bag and bank slots, simply by doing the easy daily quests you earn 2 gold every day which is enough for two 15-slot bags. On the second day playing you will have added additional 60 slots to your first character, bringing you to 80 slots. You also have 4 additional empty character slots so if your 80 slots on your character plus the space in your bank seems not enough - just make an additional character, spend 2 days worth of daily quests on him (4 gold) and there go another 80 inventory slots for storage.
Some people seem to be really just here to try to make others not play.....
Honestly i don't think comments from people playing the game for a decade already are very helpful for new players, fact is they won't farm enough gold to do so as a new player unless they make the game their second job and even then this will take very long.
And the game throws so much crap and currency at players from very low levels on you you are basically required to buy inventory and bank space or throw it all away and that's by design besides this is obviously just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to monetization in this game.
I'm on right now checking LFG tab, there isn't more than 1 or 2 groups for ANY content in the game, ANY, be it end of dragons content, living world 4 and 3, basic dungeons, path of fire, heart of thorns, most of the lfg tabs have 0 groups... so yeah, how does finding a group works in this game? do i have to wait for chat invites and opportunities?
The base game is free, so I really recommend at least giving it a shot. One of the updates is free trial access to a mount at level 10, but the base game was designed to be completed mount-less initially anyways.
If you do like the game and want more, I'd suggest getting the pack with the first two expansions (Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire). They're full of amazing content, great stories, and cool places. HoT gives you access to various gliding / flying mechanics, and PoF gives you access to a bunch of unique mounts with unique abilities - note, you have to actually play through the game to acquire all of the various mechanics. The first two expansions are the same price as the third one alone, and currently give way more content, so it's a steal!
Plenty of time to save for EoD.
This isn't true at all and it really highlights how little you've seen the game. Heart of Thorns maps were released back in 2015 and are some of the most popular maps in the game, with their meta event chains being ran around the clock by enough players to reach the population limit on a few map instances, which is around double the limit that the latest End of Dragons maps have.
It's not uncommon to see 50+ players running meta events in older content, even reaching 100+ players if the content is popular enough (as is the case with Heart of Thorns). Similar experiences can be had in base game maps between Sparkfly Fen (Tequatl world boss), Bloodtide Coast (Triple Trouble world boss), Iron Marches (Shatterer & Leyline Anomaly world bosses), Gendarran Fields (Leyline Anomaly world boss), etc. Hell, the Leyline Anomaly attracts so many players that it's one of the few times that you get to experience server lag in open world PvE content.
Yeah this. The game is not like any other mmo. People move from areas to areas depending the events. You'll see people in starting areas every couple of hours becasue there are world bosses to kill there. You'll see tons of people in bitterfrost frontier, which is small map that is what 7 years old ? everyday, just because there are trinkets to get from that map to stuff your chars.
Legendaries need you to do a lot of the content, explore every map, so you have to be everywhere, so do a lot of people.
Thanks to the skyscale mount, there are always people doing all of the season 4 maps because you need to level the whole maps to get the stuff for the mount (that can take months).
I do regularly the 4 hot maps for the events (that are non stop everyday, you can do them for hours and never get out of those maps and stuff your pockets of gold) and those are 8 years old.
Yeah the lfg is a bit occult if you come from other mmos. For point 1, you need to be proactive, when you start your game session, know what you want to do, check the event timer (wiki or gw2timer or whatever) and show up early, get in the squad, do some events in the areas and when the meta starts, do the meta. Usually from there people will move to the next meta, you just follow the train and get rich.
2. Yeah people are all looking at the lfg, but no one is making one. This is crazy. I always make my lfgs, even when alone, people show up, even dungeons 10 years old, finding a group is not hard, you just have to make one.
End of Dragons has quite a bit of content and it was made knowing some people would not have all the content. You still get the base game which has a ton of stuff and the new expansion has pretty big zones plus access to 2 very useful mounts and the glider so you will be able to do tons of content still. Next year when you have a spare $30 you can pick up the other expansions, they go on sale all the time and generally come bundled together. Sometimes its cheaper than $30 so if you really want that you can get it. The strangest part will be the story, since you will be jumping into the latest content you will be missing huge parts of the narrative but if the storyline is not something that interests you then its fine, the game has tons of other content to complete. If story and narrative are important then I would get Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire first. Even though its old content the zones are still packed. I find some servers still pretty full with huge groups beating the world bosses and running around doing things. With the release on steam and the mass of new players joining these maps will pack up more. Since almost all loot drops contain useful items for literally everyone there is no concept of old content in this game. Nearly all the content is just content and events are run by everyone all the time. I do world bosses from the core game's release quite frequently and even do the bosses from the first expansion a few times a week still. Not only are the events really fun but the rewards are still awesome to this day. Dont be worried about "old content" because Guild Wars 2 does not make old content irrelevant like other MMOs, almost all content is relevant all the time.
EoD does have a lot of introductory aspects, which is absolutely bizarre and more than a little pathetic. I mean, what is wrong with your company when your THIRD expansion, following dozens of hours of story and years of content, seems so constructed to introduce people to your game? It's like they took their ideas for a better new player experience and instead of improving the actual base game they just sold that as the expansion whether it made sense or not.
The whole expansion is just so light on everything, while still being an even bigger drag on rewards. It's such a contrast to HoT and PoF.
