Guild Wars 2

Was excited! Not anymore
They say they want new players and are excited for the new players on steam.
Yet no asian/sea/jp/ch/kr servers have been announced.
There's a huge number of asian mmorpg players on steam and they are basically missing out on a huge player base.
I used to play the game when I lived in the UK, I moved to Japan and stopped playing.

The game is available in China, it is not published by Anet in China and has separate server/client in China.

Well that still doesn't help. I'm sure I would need a Chinese ID for it.

To stop playing after moving to japan was your choice, not a necessity. Everyone from asia (except china who have their own version) can play. One of the biggest and most known content/guide creators for GW2 (AyinMaiden) has been playing from Singapore for 10 years.

The game has but two megaservers: a European and a North American. Everyone has to choose one or the other. (I have no idea how the Chinese client and servers operate, so no comment there.)
You can add Australia and New Zealand to your list and pretty much every country outside, well, Europe and NA.

I guess if the population were to grow exponentially, ANet might consider setting up a third megaserver, but this is pure speculation.

As it is, the current system ensures the highest player density possible with the trade off of having to deal with higher pings from more remote countries. I think this is preferable to being the only actual player on a map on a local server.

Guild Wars 1 has recently received Asian servers, so that could be a sign that Asian servers are a possibility in the future for GW2: https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Feedback:Developer_updates/20220414

im from SEA (Philippines) my ping is fine on NA servers.

Asian players are still minority, they dont wanna risked making asian server and ended up with even more deader wvw and pvp scene.

Tell that to the Pacific Islander WvW guilds that run me over in their zergs. XD

I'll be moving to Japan for work soon and I'd love a JP server, even an Oceania server would be good enough provided I get only 150 ping.
Loman Aug 18, 2022 @ 2:35pm
of course it will be great for me as SEA player have our own server but i doubt it will be crowded as na or eu server.
plus i play on na server with 250 ping this game surprisingly good and stable enough to play and on eu server i got 190 ping have smooth gameplay

my main reason i play this game is wvw. its required almost 100 player online in 24 hour combined from 3 server to feel this game mode alive. i doubt sea server will ever pull this.

Of course it's my choice not to play.
I really dislike playing with latency, especially because I mainly PvP.
I even tried Runescape here in Japan on AUS servers and it felt bad.
Some people can play with 100+ ping, I can't.

Played on and off over the years from east coast Aus. Never could stick with it as the high ping (~200+) was just too demotivational.
I was really hoping that this would be the time to upscale if they really think there's going to be a fresh influx of players. They really are missing out on a huge chunk of SEA/OCE by not extending server support out of NA and EU. It's 2022, is it really so much to ask for?

Exactly

Even with the current megaserver, you would have trouble finding enough ppl to do some ow meta during sea/oce prime time. Why should anet spread the population even thinner? Theres no way i would move to asia server if they ever make a server (actually 3 servers for the minimum wvw match)

there is no solution in this problem. creating new server only make dead server.
gw2 actually already optimised with high ping client. consistency is more important here and my experience as long your ping not more than 300 its good enough but i prefer below 250 to get smooth gameplay
