Launch Option to Open Non-Steam Launcher?
From what I know about OpenMW and launching it through Steam as TES III Morrowind, I'm pretty sure you can do the exact same thing with Guild Wars 2.

Once you're finally able to download Guild Wars 2 via Steam, I think you can tell it to launch the non-Steam launcher via a launch command.

Can't remember how to and I don't have time at the moment, but that might interest some people here if they're interested. If you figure it out, reply in the discussions.

But... why

Also, waiting for the steam release of a game so you can launch it without steam? Why not just play the regular release then?

Maybe they want the option for both.

Really hope the community finds a way to play with older accounts through Steam, even with no store integration.

You can add the non-Steam client to your Steam client as a non-Steam game, and start it from Steam as much as you want. You get the overlay, Steam Input, friends can see you playing, etc.

If you can trick Steam into opening the regular launcher, you can keep track of hours. That might be appealing to some people, including me.
You get to show off how many hours Guild Wars 2 takes away from your life. :p

Even if that's possible that won't track the hours you put in before you started playing through Steam.

I'm aware and I'm sure everyone else is, but granted if it's the main MMO you play, the hours will rack up anyway.

Guildwars2 tracks played hours on its own already. Even per character.

I was more worried about losing out if they added cards, GW2 steam point stuff like backgrounds, icons, profile pics, steam achievements etc.

Also recently for me adding it as a non steam game still shows my friends I'm playing it but the in game steam-ui stopped working :(

They aren't adding cards, achievements, or anything else.

So it's somewhat like TESO, minus the cards and not sure what you consider "anything else".

To which you are going to say, yeah, but at least they let old accounts link to Steam.

To which I say, well then, maybe if GW2 was developed by Zenimax, we'd also have a "Premium Subscription" with basic conveniences, the kind GW2 already provides for F2P accounts, as well.

Yes, no doubt like many other things, minus things, and as far as "anything else", the poster above me listed various things beyond cards. There's also features one could implement like using Steam to join and party up with your Steam friends. Anet isn't doing anything Steam beyond payment processing, so "anything else" is pretty clear. It's anything else.

No, I'm not, because I don't care. Not sure why you are responding hostilely to what I said. It's just information. Information Steam users seem to want, since I've seen many looking forward to cards and achievements and whatnot.

I'm not saying that they're *going* to be there, just that *if* they add them later, we won't be able to get them, which would be a shame. RuneScape added a bunch of that stuff and let old players use the launcher, don't know why anet can't

Turns out it's super easy if you haven't read the Steam reviews.

Set the launch option in Steam to: -provider Portal

Immediately worked for me. :)

Good to know, thanks
