Any reason not to use the lvl 80 boost?
This game seems to downscale our characters to whatever zone we're in but I'm not sure if there are other things that might be level locked. Can I still go through the leveling zones and the storyline just fine as a level 80 or will I be locked out of things because of my level?

nope, though I recommend to not use the boost if this is your first character. You definitely benefit from leveling organically and a boost takes that away.

If you just started; sure, every zone is scaled, but your gear will make things pretty difficult, by doing some calculations, you will need around 200 k Karma to get a decent set of lvl 80 Exotic gear, or just grind level 80 zones/ dungeons and hope for the best.

I personally would use the booster after you have played a character from 1 to 80.
In this process, you will have plenty of Karma and gold to "finance" other toons.

This isn't true, boosting to 80 gives you a full set of lvl 80 exotic gear with celestial stats. It's more then sufficient.

you will be able to go through the story and maps but you will be doing it as a level 80 and a scaled down 80. the only thing I would recommend is before you punch that ticket make sure it's on one you will play with. I have all builds at level 80 and to me some just aren't much fun. I just hit my tenth year playing and I like my Guardian, Ranger, Mesmer, but to each their own. Enjoy the game :hoodedwarbler:

I would say the only downside is the somewhat overwhelming nature of having everything thrown at you when you use the boost instead of gradually learning the class. However I do recommend completing the story on one character because "I think" the boost auto completes the story on your character.

it does not, it only boosts your level.

Do the quest rewards scale with our level? If I'm completing low level zones as a scaled down 80, will the money and items be commensurate with a level 80, or will I still be making 45 copper for each quest?

The tutorial is tied to your leveling, not questing. Using the 80 boost puts you in an endgame area with most systems unlocked and almost no information. Going back to play through the story and explore the areas isn't going to help much on filling that knowledge gap.

It's been a while but doesn't using the lvl 80 boost put you in the SIlverwastes and allows you to test it out before accepting the boost?

You aren't meant to make much income from the quest, you make income from salvaging gear drops. In that way lower level stuff is typically more valuable. Results from salvaging an item that gives iron level stuff is worth more than mithril & silk. I wouldn't worry about rewards that much.

What I can't remember is if the boost gives you the hero points required to max all the core trait lines. For the elites it's 250 hero points, that I do remember because I just buy them in wvw with testimonies.

You will get enough hero Points to unlock all the basic specs and skills.
