https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Gathering_tool (scroll to the bottom for the list)
But you seem to be talking about the glyphs which are on them, which can be freely removed from them and be put on other tools, even on temporary tools and you get them back once the tool breaks. But I guess they are not super easy to get, so I guess just picking the ones with the best glyph might also work.
Luckily the wiki has a list with all tools that come with glyphs, so let's see ...
The Skyscale Hatchling Logging Tool has a Glyph of the Crucible, which reduces the tier of harvested items by one tier .... it seems like you make profit if you harvest elder wood or mithril ore or silver ore with it, but you make a loss with nearly all other woods and logs. luckily mithril and elder wood si quite common on lvl 80 maps, so it can be useful, but it still is quite weird to use it in general. Like it also turns all special ore types that are used as map currencies on the living world maps, like bloodstone crystals or petrified wood into mithril ore or elder wood. So seems like a way too situational glyph for my taste, it for example also punishes you when using ot for the rarest nodes, like ancient wood or orichalcum nodes. Really nothing I would want to use.
The Skyscale Hatchling Mining Tool has the Glyph of Alchemy, basically the opposite of the previous glyph, which makes it quite a bit better. you might want to avoid using it for iton and platinum ore and hard wood, but except for that it seems like you can make quite a bit of profits with it. It also has no effect on the living world nodes, so seems like a pretty decent glyph to me. According to the wiki the limited amoutn of uses per day is only limited to elder wood and mithril ore, with 150 per day. For normal roaming maps it should be totally fine, it should only be na issue if you really try to focus farming it. Though going to a few farm spots every day shoudl still be fine
Now the Skyscale Hatchling Harvesting Tool has the Glyph of Reaping which basically gives the harvest tool an AOE, which seems very fine to me, especialy for plants, since there are many spots with many plants close to each other, also in the home instance.
So, From ym perspective 2 of the 3 glyphs are pretty great, but I really dislike the first glyph, the glyph of the crucible. So it probably wouldn't be my favorite. But if you somehow got an additional glyph from somewhere else you could just replace it, so it would still be fine, and the other 2 seem really nice to me.
So, glacial next, the Glacial Mining Tool has the Glyph of Overload. Additional gathering strikes every now and then does sound nice, but for me personally it would be too much micromanagement to constantly have to remember using the charges. but I guess it would simply give you a bit more resources, so not really bad.
The Glacial Logging Tool has the Glyph of the Timekeeper, which gives a 33% chance to complete gathering instantly. Which is quite nice, time saving glyphs are in general always nice. I just dislike the randomness of it a bit.
Now the Glacial Harvesting Tool, which has the Glyph of Virtue, which gives karma on every strike. 1-3 karma for logging and mining, 3-5 for harvesting. Seems nice, but I don't know how much it will really be in the end. For karma you easily need hundred thousand for some purchases, so it seems slightly weak to me, but it probably still does add up a bit ... but I just think events just give way more karma.
So in total I don't really like the glacial glyphs, but they're also not bad either .. I guess that's more personal preference.
So, the Choya ones are pretty simple. Each glyph always gives a 33% chance to find bonus ores/wood/plants when harvesting. Most of the time the same ore/wood as you are currently gathering, but it's level dependant, so it can be any wood/ore that could spawn in the area, I think. Plants are much more random ... and even give you pouches that contain the plants instead of giving you the plants directly. Seems a bit annoying to have to open them up, also since you get different ones for different leveled areas, so they might take away space in your inventory until you take care of them.
But I Guess in total still rather nice, since it simply provides more resources which is always nice.
But in the end it's all up to you, what you prefer. and about the cast time and the animation aftercast I sadly can't find any information for the tools, they seem to no longer provide the information for them. Though I do have the choya harvesting tool and it at least feels like it has no aftercast animation, which is nice. No idea about the other tools.
It seems like the rich players prefer reaper and packing their home instance full of nodes. This lets them harvest lots of nodes quickly. But nodes cost money and I'm poor.
Overload will charge up and let me harvest bonus materials from a specific node once in a while. This is great for poors who just wander around the world map. When you find one good node you want those extra charges.
Do the unbreakable tools ever go on sale? I could probably wait a few months for Christmas.
Btw, one small note, when you decide to use overcharge, ALL you rstacks are converted, and you need at least 10 charges to use it (and it has a cap of 25 charges) So you don't just do it for one node but for at least ... I guess 5? or 3 plants. I can totally see why it's so unpopular, most players just want to run aroudn and harvest their stuff quickly instead of having to think about when to use the charges and on which nodes and so on ... but hey, if you like it that's great for you, since it's so cheap.
Btw, like I mentioned earlier, you don't need infinite tools for the glyphs, you can put it on any regular tool and when it breaks you get the glyph back and can put it on the next one.
Other than that I see a lot of people just wait for the volatile magic set to go on sale. Volatile magic nets you between 50-70s per 250 if you’re converting it into trophy shipments. And sprockets usually hold between 2-3s each from the watchknight glyph.
Edit: I personally run two sickles - one bounty for high value nodes and volatile magic for the rest. Two picks - one with watchknight and one with alchemy for converting Mithril and just one axe with herbalists at the moment. I have a crucible glyph but sort-of regret it since I rarely go out node farming if ever anymore.
Volatile Magic can also be earned from map completion on season 4 maps, chests and by consuming the map specific materials/currencies that you gather with regular tools, without glyphs.
